whenever i power up tv, i can see a good image but after a few seconds the screen goes blank. at this time i can only hear the audio and the screen is solid black.

I agree with doughboy0...my mother had this same problem (picture would show momentarily and then go black) with her TV and after a bit of fiddling around with it-it turned out she somehow managed to turn the close captioning on.
If not that perhaps the picture has collapsed. A problem I had with one of my T.V.'s.

It sounds to me like your Closed Captioning is on.....It might be on full screen text. Go into menu then to closed captioning and make sure its turned off.
If that isn't it I would try unplugging it overnight and see if it resets itself. Other then that I would recommend calling the place where you bought the TV and see if they have any other ideas.
