I have driven quite a few older cars, and have fixed up several. I think it would make a good daily driver, but would be much more comfortable if you get one that is "restified", not restored. By that I mean it has been modified with a better brakes, engine (like a late model fuel injected 5.0), tires, etc. With some mods, these cars can approach the safety, comfort and fuel mileage of their late model counterparts. Also, expect to pay a minimum of 5000 extra for the fastback over a notchback in similar condition. If your handy with a wrench, you can get a base nocthback pretty cheap and mod it yourself as you get the time and money. Good luck.

It would be a great daily driver if you are somewhat mechanically inclined. All you will need is basic knowledge and you will be fine. Gas mileage is going to depend on what engine is in it and how you drive it. In a 66 there could be anywhere from a 200 inline six to a 408 stroker between the shock towers which will obviously be very different on gas. A good balance between mileage and power would be a fuel injected 302. When you go shopping, look for tiny bubbles in the paint (this is rust under the paint), look for rust on the floor boards (mainly on the passenger side under the heater box but the whole floor is important), Look for rust anywhere on the frame rails, wheel wells, trunk, bottom of the doors, etc. Ask the owner if you can pour a cup of water down the cowl. Does the water end up on the carpet? If so, the cowl is rusted out (you cant see it from above) and cowl repairs are no walk in the park with these cars. The cowls are VERY prone to rust. Good luck with your search

No. I own a mustang but allot newer. A 1966 fastback, even restored wont have the handling, stopping power and suspension your gonna need. If I were you and you can really get this car. Keep It as a hobby car and build It strong through time. Get an Import-good on gas. Gd Luck

Yeah its a good choice. I am 17 and i got a 2003 mustang when i was 16(still have it) and i love it. Yeah the i know theres a difference in the years-2003/1966 WHATEVER!-but its a mustang-who wouldn't want one? The only problem might be gas and that all depends on how you drive it(especially if its a stick) and the car's engine. I would love to have an old mustang like that so drive it well and TAKE CARE of it like its your kid. :)

The fastback is my preferred style. I have a '70 fastback, and my brother owned a '66 fastback, much better looking than the coupe versions. Ford and Shelby thought so too, that's why most all performance versions of Mustang were fastback, and nearly every Shelby was a fastback.

NO, if it is restored nicely, you do NOT want to drive it a lot. You would want to garage it, and definitly keep it out of the snow, and perferably the rain. Just to let you kmow, the chance of you findin a Mustang Fastback that is affordable to a teen is pretty darn slim. Just get a Camaro. Also the insurence would be crazy high!

I wouldn't recomend it for an everyday driver... I had one and it got 6 miles to the gallon! lol. But I kept moding it and making the engine bigger and so forth.
I think the biggest problem with it would be that if it broke down, it would be expensive to fix since all parts for cars that old would have to be special ordered and would cost more money... unless you can do it yourself, which is what I had to do. In that case, go for it! But I would recomend a newer car. Maybe a foxbody mustang (the 5.0). It's newer, but old enough to be dirt cheap, there are endless amounts of things you can do to it if you want to mod it, and it's pretty reliable.

It's okay on gas but I don't suggest getting one for your first car. Most teenagers, no matter how careful they are, total out their first car and you don't want that for a 'stang. Great everyday driver though and as a teenager they go through too much gas a week for you to afford unless you devote everything you have to that car. go with something like a grand am or something else that gets good gas mileage and is a good everyday.

1964 Ford owner here and I drove my car every day for 15 years until putting it in a siblings yard to set for 5 years while overseas. Came back and it started right up. Had not been started in 5 years and you can bet I am planning on driving it every day. I love her! Listen, those cars were made to drive everyday. They are made better then the cars of today but I would put a nice security system in mine if I were you. My DH hates my car but everyone gives him complements when he drives it. You'll be a star on the road every day. You'll make the old men tear up about the one they had that they made the mistake of getting rid of in the stupidity of their youth. Trust me I made the mistake too, but I'm refusing to let this one go. Enjoy the smell and feel of a classic!!!
