I am out of ideas as to what to do! I'm in school, have trouble paying rent each month let alone books for this upcoming semester, or the bills that come along with living expenses. I have out a loan for 1,000, my credit is maxed, my mother cannot afford to help me, and I do not know what to do as far as if I should take a sabbatical from school so I can earn more money to pay for rent and some of my debt off, my mom doesn't want me to do that cause she thinks I won't go back but I don't know what else to do, any help?

did you ever consider applying for fafsa?? I would recommend taking the next semester off and applying for FASFA as soon as you can. Then if you qualify (which if you're struggling the way you are you should qualify) start school again the semester after next. You'll be able to save money, spend time studying so you'll do well, and relaxing. Also, do you not have a part time job? I worked at carl's juniors for a couple months when times were hard, eh.. easy work (college ideal) and at only 15 hours a week I was given $130 every other week, it was like i was given money. fast food can be a game of resturaunt with the right mind set :)

Take out more school loans. Don't let work hurt your grades or keep you from taking an intership that is required for your occupation.
Taking a break may make it difficult to go back (and the little money you'll earn will make it difficult for you to come out much ahead anyway).
If you can't get any more loans from financial aid, just try typing in student loans into google (or yahoo) -- and you'll get tons of companies willing to lend you money for school.
In the short term, you might be able to take on a roommate and check textbooks out from the library just to get you by. And if you are really close there are plasma centers that are always looking for "donations" (when I was in school I found promotional coupons that would get me like $80 for 2 donations made w/ in the same week). That helped out for unexpected expenses like a professor demanding a certain make and model of calculator.
Another thought would be to go to a less expensive school if you are just starting or it won't keep you in school too much past what your current school will.
You can make it work.

Apply for financial aid (FAFSA) for next year before March 15 and also apply for scholarships. Apply to work in residential life so that you don't have to worry about rent. As for right now go speak with a financial aid counselor and you might have to get a job. I don't recommend going on sabbatical because it's so hard to get back on track.

Same here!
See if your financial aid office has applications for scholarships, some are based on need and/or major.
Fill out a FAFSA form (fafsa.gov) to qualify for free grants, either federal and state.
Have you looked into work/study?
I think your mom is right, once you leave school it's very hard to go back. Do your best to continue. Can you live with your mom for awhile? Or a roommate to help with rent?
Good luck to you and keep studying!

Go to your school financial aid officer and explain the situation. They have dozens of ways of helping. Loans, grants, jobs, etc.
At the same time you may want to look for a less expensive living situation perhaps share an apartment with other students.

did u apply for a pell...here is a site: www.scholarship.com.. if u have to drop a sem and work..you just have to.. The FA office might be able to do a "override" and get you more aid.. I understand ur mom's concern over the fact that you may not go back but IF you want this bad enough...you will. I have been and quit and went and quit, etc but I plan on going back because I want to finish what I started...

Unless you can get another loan or a better paying job, that appears to be your only option. Have you tried waitressing? A lot of college students try that as the money tends to be pretty good.

I think that you should take off a semester and find work. It will be tough to work and attend school while worrying about your finances. I have seen may of my fellow classmates crash and burn trying to do their best. I know that you would hate to see your GPA suffer. You will return to school because that is what you'll be working for. Have faith, be patient, and work hard...you will make enough money and be able to return to school in the fall.

Is there a student work/loan option? something that allows you to earn a little extra cash? Or maybe join the army national gaurd. They do 100% tuition repayment.
