I went to the pet store to buy Canidae, since it was highly recommended. However, after going to three different stores, I couldn't find it so I bought Wellness Puppy Super5Mix. They told me that this is very high quality food with human grade ingredeants, which is what I wanted. Does anyone know anything about this food? Has anyone had good or bad experiences with it. I there something I should watch for as I am weaning my puppies on to it? I have never had a puppy who couldn't handle the food I had been using for years, so this is a new experience for me. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

It is a very good food. I am a total nut when it comes to feeding my dogs. I obsess over websites in regard to good foods, especially after I read the horrors of commerical dog foods. Wellness did receive high overall scores on the charts but I know Canidae ranked a little higher. My dogs hated Wellness but it was probally a taste preference. In any good dog food you want to make the first 4 ingredients are meat and protein sources. There should be no grains listed in the top 4. You also want to totally avoid wheat, corn, any by product, soy and gluten. Those are extremely hard for dogs to digest and can cause health problems after awhile. One of the best all natural foods is Life's Abundance ( it can only be bought on line because it is shipped fresh). if you go to www.dogfoodzone.com it will actually breakdown and compare some of the top foods. Eagle Pak , Raw Instinct, are also good foods. I get all my foods from a holistic or all natural pet store. If oyu can find one in your area they carry whatever you want. My dogs did do better on the Canidae, but I do use the Wellness Pure Canned meat and the combinations have been great.
The only problem with switching a puppy or dog from commerical to holistic food is that you may experience loose stool. The commerical foods are harder for you dog to break down so the dog's digestive system often accustoms itself to work harder. With the better food it takes time for the system no slow down and digest the food easily and healthfully.

NO I don't. My dog that I have eats Nutro Max! I think it is the best pet food. My dog when she was a puppy she could not handle her pet food. So we switched it and it helped a lot! I am going to suggust that you should try Nutro Max.

you can go to canidae's website and find where it is sold near you. my older dog is on wellness because she has to have a low protein diet because of her kidney issues. its not that bad. could be better tho. it causes her to have looser stools, but its keeping her kidneys healthier. just check the first few ingredients. try to aviod corn and wheat.
