I am not afraid of the thunder; It's the wind. I am so afraid of being trapped after a tornado hits the house or something and I am 35 years old. I have a panic attack everytime.

I dreaded at one time spring and summer mostly because i was exactly like you, it was the wind, fear of a tornado coming. I watch the weather all the time to make sure i was ready. I also have full blown panic attack. Many exhausting stories i went through, but never got help for it , i guess i outgrew it. My thoughts did change, they don't bother me at all now. Irrational thinking is what it was. More than likely its not going to be a tornado. Just strong winds which come with thuderstorms. Repeat slowly to yourself it justs strong winds they will go away soon. Say to yourself im being so silly. im fine everythings fine. Its mind over matter. Next step outside when there is one and look around look in the sky and check it out. It's simply a thuderstorm again with strong winds. I feel so sorry for you so badly, because i went through it and i was like a child or i would run to someone's house i knew that had a basement or something, It was so irrational at the time but then it was real to me. You can do this please believe me. Just remember when a storm comes just say it's just a storm it will pass. It just windy. try to do something during this time too. take slow deep breaths and try to convince your mind which is very tough to do that this is silly to get worked up over. It's exhausting, i know but please try to. The Best to You. I promise if you try you will get over this irrational fear. Good luck

I can totally relate, I have been sent to the ER from a thunderstorm they scare me sooooo much. Its like, when the weather's nice thinking about storms you feel your fear is irrational but when it comes your sense of fear is as rational as can be. I am 16 and feel embarissed at boarding school when I passout from being so scared of a storm but its nothing to feel bad about. Talk to your doctor my doctor put me on Xanax and i take one right before the storm starts and it can help me get my mind off it an think more rationally. Hope it all works out for you. Let me know if this helps at all. goodluck

I know how you feel, when a Storm comes I normally go and cuddle up with my dog. But if that does not work for you, or you don't have a dog go to a small room (mabey your bedroom) and cuddle up in the blankets. When your scared, take a deep breath and mabey even recite some Bible verses.
Hoped This Helped, Good Luck!

i imagine Thunder Storms are impressive. i imagine of them as....Thunder is GOD stomping his huge ft on Heaven's grounds. And Lightning as GOD is blinking his Firey Eyes of 'Love' on us people. once you verify out Thunder and Lightning that way,, this is not scary in any respect. fairly, even as someone has a own relationship with the GOD who created us. :-)

I always tell my kids that thunder is a sound and sound can't hurt you. Maybe you could count between each clap of thunder, when the number starts to rise you know it's moving away. . . at the very least it will distract you.

I sympathize with you. I go through the same thing. I also inadvertently passed this fear on to my kids. We have not found anything that helped other than staying in the same room together.

They are scary but this is why having a boyfriend is so fun, because it makes the storm seem so far away.
