I have been travelling around australia and have enjoyed stopping in old pubs or motels in country towns. I cannot find a website that lists this type of accomodation, have been using RAC site but seems to be mostly camp grounds. Has anyone any ideas please?

What area (state, district, city, town, village) do you mean? Asking this is like someone asking "Anyone know a website for cheap accomodation in America?"
Its just too general.

find hostels. they are located in every major city or town throughout the whole country. Just do a search for hostels and the city that you are travelling in. Or check out www.yha.com hope this helps.

Try wotif or last minute. They have good deals for bookings within 28 days.

You could try www.takeabreak.com.au as they list a whole range of places to stay - not just hotels and not just last minute
