We can only hope that we're finally all learning to abandon primitive beliefs and the intolerance that goes with them, and getting ready to enter a new age of enlightenment and tolerance.

The post-Christian era as you call it doesn't last for long. The New Agers think we are entering the "Age of Aquarius" and waiting impatiently indeed for it. They are probably wondering why the Muslims haven't dragged us all (Muslims, Christians and Jews) into a three way death match yet. So in the meanwhile we are demonized by the pagans, atheists and "humanists" (now with their own pet religion they aim to enforce) as hateful along with Muslims. Little do they know, its the end-game of Satan to draw as many souls into destruction and damnation as he can before he is put away for good. There is no rapture - that is another Satanic trick to increase apostasy when it does not happen. (Remember the "revelation" was given to a twelve-year old girl under his influence).
Humanity is entering the dark night of history when many men will choose confusion and darkness through New Age, occult, hatred and war and pretend to be gods. The darkness of a world without God (humanism, atheism) and hatred(islamic fundamentalism) along with the occult(New Age, Hinduism, Buddhism) will peak, confusion will reign before Jesus returns.
If you have any doubts about whether this can ever happen, look at Nazi Germany. It was just a test-tube case for Satan to prove in one country and to dispatch all Jews before the Second Coming, in order to forestall the Messiah and keep the world in darkness. You see he does know Scripture especially the one on the conversion of the Jews just before the Second Coming of Christ..
Someone here quoted Jesus "The gates of hell will not prevail". Amen to that.

In my opinion, it's unlikely to happen in the US. Christianity, in all its various forms, is still a huge phenomenon here, at least in the Southern U.S. where I live. Church attendance is rising rapidly, not waning. Almost all the major churches here are experiencing growth, so I wouldn't write an obituary for the Christian Era just yet. As long as the South exists, there will be a heavy Christian presence in America.

Hmmm, maybe, maybe not. The US is still 80% Christian, and only parts of Europe are really Post-Christian, like Sweden.
Having said that, in the United States, the younger you are, the less you believe.

There are a lot of Christians not going to church now but if you were in the circle you would know they are not abandoning their faith and belief - its simply being redefined into reality. Many Christians are burned out by the organized church and very actively seeking to learn more about the reality of God and not about the doctrines, tithing and party spirit found in many churches.

It's inevitable as people start questioning things that don't make sense or are contradictory in Christianity.
People like Pat Robertson, Ted Haggard and pedophile priests certainly don't help the Christian cause.

Some theologians believe we are in the post-Christian era.
I'm glad that doesn't discrible where I live and the Church I attend!
Happy New Year!

You are talking parochially about America of course....why does every American assume it is just Americans here??
Much of the Western world is already in the post-xian era. As you alluded most of Europe, Canada and Japan are very secular countries and have much lower levels of belief and attendance in church
I think the USA is generations away from such a worthy goal, however.

Yes it will, after Christ returns to rapture His church. Then the worldwill see such turmoil which has never happened before. Thankfully, the born again Christians won't have to endure it but we will return with Christ at His Second Coming to rule and reign with Him for 1000 years at which point the Great White Throne Judgement will come about. Everyone stands before God then and the lost will be cast into the lake of fire.
