England invented the industrial revolution. This is the system we live under today. If you hop on a jet and fly to Jakarta, London, Paris, or Rome you can thank the English for the priviledge. Birmingham is coal and steel, Manchester manufacturing, Liverpool is global shipping and the Beatles.

Well it depends whether you want to focus on past or present or both; which is a huge project! If you are wanting to include historical influences, look up the British Empire; the British Empire dominanted the world for a long time. Current importance of the UK is its alliance with the USA and relationship with Australia. You could talk about the Royal Family. Its a very big question!

England owned 3 quarters of the planet for over 100 years, including India, USA, Africa, West Indies and as far as China (Hong Kong was British until 1997). That's why so many people speak English, and it's the national language spoken in US, Australia, SA, NZ, etc...
As for the cities you mention, I know little about them.

Try doing some real internet research you lazy ***. You think people are gonna write your report for you. Try typing in yahoo, the historic importance of liverpool, manchester. Your supposed to be developing your research skills, so far your not doing so well.

England is important because of the influance it has had on the world. Many countries base their political, legal and financial systems, with variations, on that which was introduced to them by contact with Brittain in the past.
The cities you mention were at the forefront of the industrial revolution, and that has developed into the world we have today.

WWII, anyone? Honestly, they basically took part in saving the planet. England, too, is the mother country thousands of renowned artists and philosophers hail to, such as Shakespeare and CS Lewis. The English philospoher John Locke wrote many papers which America's basic foundings are taken from.

Its important because it was once the seat of power for the whole western world. Its a rich, beautiful country with a fabulous culture. The cities you mention are major cities in this country.

manchester was a mill site in england during the industrial revolution. i don't know about the other stuff though.

we have one of the oldest empires in world history dating back to 600BC.....we have won the biggest war in human history.....and for a tiny country...were amazing!!!
