Nuns wear what is refered to as a "habit." The head gear is a "wimple" and "veil."l
The religious habit is an outward sign of the nuns' total consecration to Jesus. It is also a reminder that the nuns' are all one family in the Lord, and an expression to all of the poverty and penance of their life. The nuns wear a veil and traditional habit consisting of a brown robe and full length scapular. A cord with three knots signifying the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience is worn around the waist. From the cord hangs a often hangs a rosary and profession crucifix. At a nun's solemn profession of vows, she usually receives a ring signifying her espousal to Jesus Christ..
