I would suggest that there are far more pressing problems than simple global-warming, which has happened before and will happen again.
Quite why the "greens" target motor-vehicles is beyond me, considering how little contribution they make to the overall impact of green-house gases. This is where I part company with tax people, because they know they could be onto a winner financially.
As for green-house gases themselves, the theory sounds good enough, but of course, the planet chucks out vast amounts of them in the geological and natural world, and when sun-spot activity is high, the usual self-regulating checks and balances of the planet take time to adjust.
Far more worrying ecologically, is the vast amount of plastic waste being generated, and which pollutes every ocean of the world. Then there is chemical pollution, which can so easily leach back into the water courses and food chain. Other concerns include heavy metals, pesticides, toxic waste, profligate waste of resources such a timber and oil, and a thousand other things which are far more damaging than increased temperature.
For the immediate future, it looks more likely that we and our children may become victims to some global pandemic, long before we fry or drown.
Maybe THAT is part of the self-regulating nature of the planet also!
Scientists and mankind in general, have a very inflated view of what they can achieve, but I suspect that the collosal forces of nature will have the last word.

The issue is very real and is happening now ...the tax however is a con as it will not be used to fund the change needed to stop global warming.Do you know the polar ice caps are melting now and the polar bear will be extinct in less that 20 years unless something drastic is done yesterday! And don't think it will not affect you because it already is..try reading about it and watching some educational TV and you will be shocked...I give a monkeys and so should you.

There are some really important environmental issues out there and not enough people are taking any notice or thinking it wont happen for a long time.
We all need to do our bit to collectively make a difference and a lot of people need to get their head out of the sand and take notice.
More taxes or higher costs are a good idea because most people only take notice of such issues when its goign to affect them financially. People are more likely now to turn lights off because its going to cost more for energy bills or use more economical cars because fuel costs are rising. If people react like this it is probably the best way to get more people to take notice of the serious issues.

I guess in a way it depends on if you have children and if you do, if you care what they or their children have to live with, if living wiill be possible, that is.
I, myself, am the proberbial "canary in the mine"
I am sensitive or allergic to practically everything
that is not natural and to a lot of things that are.
A few weeks ago I finally got an expensive air
purifier and I can't tell you what a difference it
has made in my breathing.
When I buy things like garbage bags I sort of
put my face between the cracks of the box
before purchasing them. If they are perfumed
I can't use them.
Well, I don't have children and I'm 58 but I kind of feel
like that world's children are a responsibility for me and
all of us.
The Native Americas wouldn't pass a law unless it would
still be good and healthy into the 7th generation into the
future. wow!

Its the only tax i agree with. Its not a zillion years away. Oil will run out in around 100 years time. That is if we survive global warming and some tidal wave does not wipe us out first. You've seen it in Indonesia.

green taxes are good. poeple are too stupid and ignorant to do this themselves that they have to be force into it. you see i really believe the world is going straight up rip itself apart. and if your smart and your a saver and a recycler you may just be able to survive off the grid. if your a waster and you such the grid like a big fat mammas tit your going to die! be smart learn to live off what you can recycle and make. maybe youll feel a little bit independent.
