If the woman is going to get an abortion no matter what, why won't you allow stem cell research?? No matter what, that fetus is gone, so why not let it be used for good?? You can't stop the woman from getting it, so once it's done, there's no going back, so why not let the fetus be used??

thanks all!! I'm not trying to offend anyone, sorry if I did!

I'm not talking about if a woman should get an abortion, that's a whole other debate, I'm talking about what they do with the unborn fetus AFTER the abortion, it's already happened, so...

Actually Julia Encarnacion, you didn't even fight against what I was saying, and besides, anyone who doesn't know history will repeat it, grow up!

Well, if they won't let them use it for stem cells, they need to STOP using dead people for organ transplants!

No offense taken, darlin.

Most of the fetal stem cells used for research actually came from extra embryos left over from in vitro fertilization, not abortion.

I don't see why the parents of these embryos couldn't choose whether or not to sign them over for research. But, abortion is really a separate debate.

A very good question, though. :)

According to that logic, we would be in the clear in using the results of Nazi biological experiments conducted on Jews.

I mean, after all, they're dead, right? The Jews in the Holocaust are gone, so why not let it be used for good?

We couldn't stop the Nazis from conducting vivisection on all those Jewish people, or putting them in freezing water until they died so that we'd know how long people could survive in cold water.

So once it's done, there's no going back -- so why not let the Jewish victims of Nazi medical experiments be used?

I'm not trying to offend you; sorry if I did. But I'm just applying your "logic" across the board.

Legalized fetal stem-cell research will only lead to more abortions. And it will only lead society to have an even more callous attitude toward the unborn's right to life, than it already does.

Julia Encarnacion makes the best point in this little debate.

I understand what you're saying. It's complicated. I can see trying to find good out of something gone wrong- the problem is that message gets lost in fear of people thinking that then they are condoning abortion. Ya know what I mean??

The thing is that the stem cell people will create humans to abort them and then harvest the stem cells. On top of all that they still have not proven fetal stem cells are any more usefull than mature ones.

It is the same excuse that German officers used to justify their experiments on people of Jewish Faith, mentally disabled, and the physical disabled during the Nazi reign of terror.

Human life is sacred. Murder should be discouraged.

Besides, today scientist at Harvard and Wake Forest announced that the prenatal fluid surrounding a fetus provides the SAME stem cells without killing or harming the child.

Once again, science confirming Faith.

If the topic is abortion it doesn't matter what you say, you're going to offend someone. Personally, I agree with you. But the Anti-Choicers likely will not. Prepare for scripture!

Thank you, Dr. Mengele! 'If these Jews are going to be killed anyway, we might as well get some scientific use out of them...'
