i'm studying architecture in college and needing to know what is different in the foundation process for an underground house or if there is any

Well all the walls have to be treated as the foundation of a hosue with a basement would normally be treated. If the surrounding soil expands and contracts the walls require bracing and sand will probably have to be placed between the walls and the soil. Since the bottom of the walls is below the frost line, that means the foundation below the walls does not have to extend any distance.

Its same principle as a multi story unit, cept one is undergoround or partially submerged. Same factors and stresses are applied, its just beneath the ground level.
