You should always do a cardio warm up before any exercise.

You should always warm up b4 any big workout. By lifting light weights many times is good but I find the best way to warm up b4 a weight session is the rowing machine for several reasons;
It will warm up virtually every muscle you are about to train also you get a great calorie burning exercise.

Ok please don't think i am being rude but I am a little puzzled at the question. None of the above are linked in anyway even though you may think they are. If you are running for 10 mins on the treadmill purely to warm up for your weight training then I think you should re address your warm up. I am not saying it is wrong but there are plenty more effecient ways to prepare your body for your weight training other than running on the treadmill. The one reason I would run is if i enjoy it but it will not enhance your weight lifting. Try and raise your heart rate and warm your muscles up by using movements that are similar to the task that you will be doing. So if your were squatting you may prepare by squatting with light resistance or no weight if you were benching you might do pressups. You need to warm up your neuromuscular system as well as raise your body temperature. i can't understand how starting kickboxing would effect your warm up for a weight session as they are not linked?

I do martial arts, and I find it a good cardio workout, but it's a good idea to do something speacifically aimed at raising the heart rate too, so I would say stick to the running as well, it's SUCH a good workout, and the best way to burn fat. If you want a seriously good heart rate, take up squash, it's fast,fun and like a mini aerobics workout too!
