not sure they would say 'have to'
one of the problems is Mary can appear more sympathetic and more available and more willing than God to some... sorta a kinder gentler way of approaching God
and the problem is... Jesus is the one praying, interceeding at the right hand of GOd and His prayers calm the wind and the waved, heal the sick, raise the dead and make bad men good
the problem is Mary can easily become a Jesus substitute... and another problem is only God can look on the heart to hear a prayer ... it is more than words... no reason Mary can hear the words or look on the heart... so pray straight to God through Jesus

we don't. Why do you think we think that?
We ask Mary and the other saints to pray for us.
Have you ever prayed for someone? Well Jesus is the only mediator!
I'm being facetious of course, but the only difference is Mary is Jesus' mom, and more importantly she's in Heaven, more alive than us! If we can pray for each other here on earth, why can't we ask her and all the saints to pray for us?
If you look in Apocalypse 5:8
And when he had opened the book, the four living creatures, and the four and twenty ancients fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the *prayers of saints*

Well some people think that because they think God is busy and has everyone in the world to look after so Mary can deliver the message. I just pray to God so that He can get my message.

I talk to God AND I talk to Mary. The Bible says, "pray for one another" (James 5:16), so I ask her to pray for me.

Because we don't have to talk through Mary. I usually just talk straight to God.

Ahh the freedom of being Muslim; have a direct outlet to God and that is through my own personal prayer.

Because they aren't born of God yet. Jesus Christ is the middle man between us & the Father God.

Because everyone's source of the "truth" is different. That's why there are so many different religions.
