Thank you to everyone. I've been so upset all day long.

We've been biting her nails from birth because I was so afraid to cut them. She's 17.5 months and this week, at the encouragement of several other mothers, I started to use clippers. Today, I nicked her finger pretty badly. She was totally resting and relaxed in my arms and she moved. I couldn't believe the amount of blood!! We brought her to the ER and they told us that there are so many capillaries that there is alot of blood for that reason.

She just came up to me a few minutes ago, with her HUGE club-arm bandage and gave me a kiss on the lips. How did I get so lucky?

I have....more than once. I felt awful. But I cleaned it gently with warm water and a cotton ball, and put a tiny band-aid on it, and it was good to go.

Babies and children are naturally so forgiving, they rarely hold grudges, and I think just aboout every mom has nicked their childs finger. So don't feel bad!

That's more common than you might think! My husband has only clipped our sons nails twice since he was born and refuses to do it anymore because both times he nicked the baby. He felt so bad about it. I tried to console him but its devastating to inflict any sort of pain on your child.

My clipping trick is to hold the finger firmly in one hand and view it from a profile so that you can properly align the clipper with the nail. Good lighting certainly helps too.

Try, try agian!

My husband and I did that when my daughter was alittle over 3 months old. It did bleed alot but what the dr. in the ER told you is totally correct. We felt so bad too! She was fine though. She creid for a little bit but after that she was okay. Don't feel bad it happens to alot of us. Hope this helps :)

There are some really good baby nail clippers available. I was terrified to cut my son's nails until my wife bought them for me. Now, I feel confident cutting his nails.

Yes a slip will happen once in a while, just put neosporin and a band-aid.

I know this is a terrible feeling to hurt your baby.

I was told to wait until they are asleep to cut their nails to avoid hurting them or wiggling.

Yes. It was the 1st time I had cut his fingernails. He screamed. It bled and I cried more than he did. It was a horrible experience.
