My cat has an obstruction in her stomach. I have been to the vet. How do you get rid of an obstruction, without resorting to surgery.

If the cat is unable to defecate and/or urinate, it will die within 72 hours. If the vet thought it was something that could be treated with antibiotics, they would have offered that option. You have no choice but to get the surgery done.

This is VERY risky, and your cat could die quickly if you do not go to surgery. Sometimes if the pet seems stable people opt to just watch and see if they pet passes the obstruction in their stool. But they also take a lot of x rays, which adds up, and ends up also being very expensive. Because it is SOO dangerous to leave her be with an obstruction, it is best to take her to surgery RIGHT Away!

You can't. An obstruction means that there is a blockage. The only way to remove it is through surgery. Hurry and help your cat!

My cat, Mr Jinks a Maine Cat, just had an emergency blockage surgery this weekend. He was throwing up blood, stopped eating and drinking water. We gave him a laxative Friday night and took x-rays. I decided Sat (after no bowel movement) to take him in for Barium test (using a dye and radiography). The Barium test indicated there was blockage (the dye was not moving to the bowels). We took Mr Jinks in for surgery. When they opened him up, we found that the stomach tissue was starting to die and form ulcers (mild necrosis). There was a piece of foil and a five inch long hairball inside his tummy. We caught it just in time.

Take your little guy into the vet for Barium tests (about $200). If there is a blockage discuss with your vet if you think spending $1,300 on surgery is worth it for you and your pet.

Mr. Jinks is making a full recovery. I wish you luck.

If she has been like this for more than a week, then surgery is the best solution, If she has just been obstructed for a day or two you may want to try feeding her canned pumpkin, yes like the one you would use to bake pumpkin pie with. This seems to get kitty going and may help her pass it through. However she does not get better with in a day or two or gets worse , surgery is the only fix.

If there were an option other than surgery, your vet would have told you. Since they didn't, then surgery is it and your cat will die without it. Not a very pleasant way to die, so please, take her back to the vet asap.

You don't. There isn't a "do-it-yourself" home surgical kit.
Get the surgery done, or have the cat put to sleep. It is not a great way to die, so don't let it linger until it does!!!
