I adopted a 6 month old dog from a local shelter. He was brought in as a stray so they didnt know for sure what breed he is. Is there anyway telling for sure what breed or mixed breeds he is? He has spotty legs and body like a german short haired pointer and he has airplane ears like a border collie with the stripe down his face but his nose is also spotty like his legs. he has a longer tail like a lab and it is not at all fluffy, he also has a spot on his tounge......i am trying to figure it out so that maybe i will be able to tell more about his personality and breed characteristics

You will never know for sure, and it is hard to guess without a picture. But i would go with whatever your shelter thought he was. They are experienced in trying to figure out what breed dogs are. And he could just have so many different breeds in it that it is impossible to know.
I looked at his pictures. He sure is cute! He looks very playful and fun. It is still VERY hard to tell, he looks like a heinz 57 with a little bit of everything. But what i first saw was maybe some australian cattle dog. That is just from his colors. The bluish gray tick marks with black spots. And i also see maybe some pointer, either german short hair, or english. Or he could also be a lab mix, or have dalmation and border collie in him. I'm sorry, i know that is not much help.
These two dogs are what i thought of first:

OK After now seeing many pictures I am ruling out the Dalmatian. Umm Definitely not a Setter or Dob because those are 2 dogs that i have looked up alot to have and Gretz face is kinda square like storms. Mom and I were talking about him a week or so ago and guessed part blue healer. But I am guessing maybe some kinda spaniel but i dont know about the tail. I thinkin that both parents were mutts which makes him and awesome mix! So there... I answered a question! When you come home I will play with him and figure it out then!

You will probably never know for sure, but you can make some educated guesses. Spotted tongues are common in chows and a couple other breeds. You have already noticed the unique markings; these could be from a pointer, or a dalmatian, a border collie, or even a blue heeler. Mutts are unique and special creatures. Enjoy yours for who he is!

Ok. There are two types of pointers that have spots on them. They are called: Auvergne Pointer and the Large French Pointer. The Auvergne Pointer actually has a white stripe going down the face sometimes. I think the spot on the tongue has something to do wtih his past. (might have gotten hurt) He might have some Border in him too. I hope this can help. Google these dogs that I mentioned. GOOD LUCK!!!

I could probably tell you the mix if you had a link to a picture
ADD: ok, now that you have a picture, I would say part english setter, part doberman. It could also be Lab/ pointer. The shorter legs may be due to some heeler????? But Im leaning toward the Setter/Dobie mix

Probably part black lab and german short haired pointer. A lot of black labs have black spots on their tongues. It is just pigmentation. Many people believe that if there is any black on the tongue then they must be part chow. I found out that is not true. He may also be part Dalmation, because of the spots and the hair not being long at all.
would love it if you could post a picture.

He sounds like a wonderful, loveable heinz 57 breed :)
The spot on the tongue tells me that somewhere in his line is chow or shar-pei.
Are his feet webbed? That will tell you more that he may have in him.
Edited to say:
I think he's very photogenic and extremely cute! Just want to hug him. He has such a cute face.

He looks like he's got some pointer in him and possibly border collie. It's great that you're giving him a new home. Enjoy him.

I would say he is blue heeler x border collie. He definately has blue heeler in him and the black either from a border collie or kelpie.
