Whatever you do, don't slap him! (♥Alexx♥ had this as her answer. That will not solve any problems, it will only make your dog more afraid of you and it is not humane.) The best thing to do is put him in his crate while you are eating, and let him out when you are done. Do this for a couple of weeks. When you think it is time for him to be around while you are eating, you must ignore him if he begs. Tell him to sit and possibly give him a toy to keep him busy. You must remember not to give him any of your food, or he will not learn. Keep this up and sooner or later he will not beg anymore. Good Luck!

I had the same problem.. When my puppies beg I told them no begging with a firm voice so that they no the difference in playing and being serious.. I mad her lay down and stay.. If they didn't listen I would put them either in a cage or in another room:) So now when I say anything about begging they both look away.. I have tapped her on the nose and said no but I wouldn't do that. You really shouldn't spank Dogs:( But I hope you find the answer you need.. GODD LUCK

Never feed him from the table. Always put any food you give your dog in his own personal bowl. He will stop begging in a few weeks time, because he is now getting nothing from you unless it is in the dogs bowl.

I have done this with my three dogs who begged all the time. They no longer beg and lie quietly when we eat. Thank Goodness. I know what it feels like to be harrassed while eating, but no more.

Table feeding is a bad habit and a hard one to cure. The dog is begging because someone has fed him from the table. Bone or no bone, our food tastes waaaay better. Try segregating him from yourselves when you eat and make sure you feed him after you've eaten. Dogs understand a pecking order and feel much more comfortable when they know where their rank in the family lies.

When a puppy is begging, wou want to ignore him/her when you are eating. (I know it sounds cruel, but it works.) Eventually, your dog will understand that he/she is not allowed to have your food.
If it is a grown dog, same concept. When a grown dog doesn't know not to do it, I would advise you to put him in a certain room when you are eating. If you have fed him scraps before now, the dog will think that it is okay to beg. My advise then is to try to stop for a while and see if that turns out okay. Good Luck!!!

I've always told them no and to go lay down. I can't stand for an animal to beg while I'm eating, it drives me nuts to. Be stern on telling it no and keep telling him until it understands.

unfortunately, if a dog learns at an early age that food is available from his master, it's a tough habit to break. make sure your dog's feeding area is nowhere close to where humans eat... and never give in to the impulse to feed him or her aside from that established dining area.

Put it in a room while you're eating, because my bully drives me so crazy because she leaves drool on my leg. Eww! Or you can keep pushing it away until it gets the picture.

Train him to stay down and in a certain place when you are eating. Don't allow him to get up until you are done.
