My dog is an outside dog. He barks all the time and I think it's because he's bored. I want to spend more time with my dog, but I don't know what to do. We play fetch but I want to do something that's more fun. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

The reason my dog is not inside is because my parents won't let him inside. They said he is ditrty, sheds, and he is too big for the house. I agree, all dogs should be able to spend time inside with their owners so they don't feel lonely, but unfortunatly my parents don't.

Bring him inside. Dogs are pack animals and need to be with their pack aka YOU. If you dont want to do this, maybe you should give him to someone who will.
Now to answer your question: Agility, flyball, Schuthund, tug-of-war, teach him to follow a scent trail, find a hidden treat, swimming, teach him new commands and tricks, have him get you the newspaper or other common items on command, train him for weightpulling

Why not bring the dog in? The dog lacks attention and when he can't be with you he barks.

The whole issue is that he wants to be with you but you can't. You can not tell me you would spend as much time with him as if he were inside. Why- because would you go out in the fridged cold, rain, snow, and bleaching heat.
Other than what the above posters listed training is a really good bonding tool and he will enjoy learning if you keep it fun. Try agility or any more trick.

Just spend more time with him in general outside. Play fetch, tug-o-war and hide and seek. To stop him from being bored when you're not home or can't play with him for whatever reason, hide some treats around outside for him to sniff out. Kongs are also good. You can get a Kong, pop some treats in there and he'll be entertained for a while :)

You could play fetch (even though all dogs know that game, they don't all know that word), there's more than once kind of fetch. It's all in what you throw or kick. You could also play, "gonna get you", tug of war, or go in circles. That's where, you follow the dog, and it maybe goes in circles, or something. As for fetch, ther's a fake newspaper, adog toy (my brother, mother and I call it bunn bunn), a tennis ball, or soemthing round and fake bones, myabe other things. You could play "run". That's where you run and the dog runs, after you. Or some times the dog runs around in circles infront of another dog. Any questions?

I love to play with my dog it is a really fun activity and it is good you are showing interest in your dog, let me first say he is not barking becuase he is board. However if you would like to play differant games with him my ideas would be get some bubbles see how he likes that My dog Flips for bubbles just saying the word makes her go crazy also a flash light let him chase the light or just running with him. A dog doest care if the game is the same he just cares that you are playing.

Try teaching your dog the names of objects or people. Then you can hide things and say "find ___", and the dog goes and gets it. This also works with different family members in different rooms of the house. I also got this toy called Hide-a-Squirrel where you put stuffed squirrels into a plush tree stump, and the dog has to figure out how to get them out. My dog wants to do it over and over.
My dog's current favorite is rope tug, but that will get old for you after a while. You could try frisbee, but that is very time intensive. Start by rolling it along the ground and having him retrieve. Then gradually start tossing it up in the air.

Aside from toys and games, consider getting another dog, that will keep the boredom and barking down. I know it is hard to come up with things to do, other than walking and throwing a ball around. I have two dog that keep each other company. They are pack animals that need to be with others. They don't like to lead solitary lives.

First, your pet not only needs you to spend time with them...but they need to be walked outside of the backyard. Second, here's a great game I play with "my girls". I put them inside the house. Then I go out and hide their favorite treats. Sometimes I make it hard. So they have to really use their noses to work for their treat. They enjoy hunting, and I really enjoy watching them. it's kind of a hide and seek. Have fun....and walk your dog!

Go on walks with your dog and run with it. If you're not into the whole walking/running idea you can just go outside with it more often. I give my dog raw hides and it keeps her busy for a while. Try that. Best of luck with your dog, hope I helped.

I like to play hide & seek with my dog. I usually throw his toy down the hallway or stairs & when he runs to get it, I hide. Then, I'll call or whistle to him. He usually finds me right away but, sometimes, he has trouble and he'll start to whine. It's a lot of fun.
He also likes to play this game where he'll push his ball under the couch or bed. He'll stick his head under it and just look at the ball. I'm supposed to get down and look under there too. I usually roll the ball back to him and he'll roll it back to me. It's weird but he loves it. He likes it even better when two people roll the ball back & forth, under the couch.
