--Leaves are flat to get maximum sun exposure for the light to power photosynthesis.
--Leaves have layers of mesophyll cells that contain chloroplasts to conduct photosynthesis.
--Leaves have stomata to allow gases to enter and exit.
--Leaves have vascular tissue to bring the water for photosynthesis and to carry away the glucose to other parts of the plant.
--Leaves have air spaces between their photosynthetic mesophyll cells so the CO2 and O2 can move about freely.

Leaves have the main responsibility for carrying on photosynthesis and providing the food to the rest of the plant.
