i'm not sure if this is true with all cancer patients using chemotherapy, but how long after they start using this treatment does their hair start falling out?

It took my son a couple months to lose all his hair (he had high dose chemo for 8 months). He originally had very thick hair with blonde and brown strands. All the dark hair fell out first and than he kept the blonde hair for quite some time. It all finally fell out though.

His second protocol of chemo treatment he did not lose his hair, but it never was as thick as it had been originally.

He is on a third protocol and lost most of his hair, it's pretty thin up there but he still has a few blonde whisps.

When he is off chemo treatment it all grows back.

This answer depends on a couple of factors.

It would depend on the type of chemotherapy he is given. Standardly for chemo, his hair will probably fall out after the first couple cycles.
It falls out slowly, he will notice hair loosened if he grabs it. It does NOT all fall out at once. Most people (myself included) shave their head at the onset of this. It's not fun leaving big hairballs on your pillow and when you walk outside and the wind blows!

Also- if you are given radiation therapy. It could affect hair in the areas that the radiation is hitting I had radiation to my head/neck, and the araes that were zapped had hair fall out in those areas first.

This took a bit longer than chemo for it to fall out, I would say it took about 10 cycles of radiation before my hair fell out in the back.

On the positive side, after shaving my hair 4 weeks ago, it has already started to grow back and is probably an inch long.

Best of luck to you or whomever is going through it!

It depends on the type of chemo treatment being done. Some types don't cause you to lose it at all. My friend lost hers after the first week of Chemo...

In my situation, and my cousin's, it was exactly 14 days (after 2 treatments). It was coming out when I brushed my fingers through my hair. I finally buzzed it off so I could pee in the shower again.
