i agree the gov. shouldn't raise taxes on specific items just to discriminate against people who smoke, (even though i think its a stupid suicidal thing to do).But that's government for you, either keep buying them or quit smoking.i don't think there's anything you can do because politicians aren't in office to serve you, they are in office for personal reasons and they take advantage of the ignorance of americans to stay in office.Anyways, there's no difference between republicans and democrats, they talk a little different game, but they resort to doing the same things.

Nothing, the government is not gonna lower the rate on a surething moneymaker. I smoked for 10 years and enjoyed every cigarette. Price wasnt THE reason I quit, but it was in the top 5. The ranks of non smokers greatly outnumbers the smokers and the majority tends to be favored. Public sentiment over the smoker's having to pay more is not gonna be great. That's reality. So if you like to smoke, figure a way to afford it or quit.

Hey thriller, they do tax alcohol. The price of cigarettes will not go down unless of course they legalize marijuana and tax the heck out of that and lay off the cig's tax. But, I cannot see that happening. Go to a tobacco store and price rolling your own supplies. That is very cheap, although inconvenient. Looks cool though.

Most of the cost of a pack of cigarettes is tax. Lets say it costs $3.00 a pack. Probably $2 of that is tax. When they ring it up, you pay sales tax on the whole $3. Your paying tax on tax. Is that right? Any other smokers ever thought of that?

Nothing except to quit. It's not really the price that gets you but the taxes.

Stop smoking them, they are bad for your health and those who breathe in your smoke around you. Have you ever seen anyone close to you die from lung cancer? I have and it is not a way I wanted to see a loved one in their last days of life.

Quit, then they'll have to lower the prices to lure people back! I'm a smoker, so I'm not lecturing.
