It's one of those things you acquire an answer to over many years of taking in all your experiences. I personally, believe there is something far greater than we, as humans, in this form can ever understand. I can't explain the God I believe in, I can't because I don't understand him myself. Not yet, maybe never. But I do believe there is a force, far greater than our philosophy or science can ever explain.

First reason to believe in God: there is absolutely no way that life could have come into existence without divine intervention. Study for yourself on creation and evolution websites and you will clearly see for yourself(search with "abiogenesis").
Second reason: the complex interaction of higher life forms that require a symbiotic relationship to exist. Also, in that category is irreducible complexity, a book by Michael Behe called 'Darwin's Black Box' touches the tip of the iceberg. A good video is "Unlocking the Mystery of Life".
Third reason: Miracles that cannot be explained by science. e.g. people raised from the dead, lame people healed, blind people healed, cancer healed, etc... People who have died, some atheistic and agnostic, and tell about there experience(very interesting sites on internet).
There are more reasons why I believe in God but I will leave it at 3 here.

If you want a relationship with God it is a far different matter than simply believing in him. You must believe that Jesus is the Son of God, ask for forgiveness of sins and follow his teachings.

Hope this helps in your quest.

1st, science -
Look at the complexity of everything around you.
The fragile line between life and death.
The body you live in, how does it work? Why does your heart beat?
Why are you able to think? Why didn't any other mamals evolve like humans - IF we did evolve from being apes.
The chances of the compexity of the earth and everything in it working together the way it does. Accident?

When you love God, you just KNOW he's listening. You won't physically hear him, but you will have an inner sense of God of you allow him to be a part of your life. Things in your life will happen and you will know they are gifts from God.

Have you ever heard the saying, "Give, and you will in return, recieve ten-fold'? It's TRUE! Before I took God into my heart and made a relationship with him, It was a rare thing for good things to happen to me.

After living a daily life trying to honor God as my father, I belive he is proud of me, Loves me and will provide good things in my life. Good things HAVE happened to me.

I can guess with wisdom what my life would be like if I hadn't given my life to him. I would have seeked a lifestyle that would have caused me much grief, pain, challenges and I would most likely be dead.

I have spent time with believers and non-believers in my lifetime. I'd say 50/50 overall. All the believeirs are much happier, respected, giving, generous people that are HIGHLY liked by many. They are much more Successfull, rich if you'd rather say.
They are always willing to learn, are patient and level-headed people.

Non-believer's _ Seem fun at first, but have discovered ulterior motives were at work more often than not.

Most are good looking people who think they can spin the world and everyone in thier world the way they wish. They may be successful, but ususally temorarily and with many headaches, lawsuits and they surround themselves with many others just like themselves. Misery LOVES compnay

Money, popularity and power are the center of thier lives. They are stingy, non-generous and rarely think of what they can do to benefit everyone around them.

God has created you and the world you live in. What you do, what you believe and how you live your life is up to you. God gave us free will. Many religious sayings sound really passe, until you really understand them. Just give it a try.

What do you have to lose?

If you truely and sinsearly want to belive in God.
All it realy takes is a hard but simple stage.
To belive.
There this one bit of problem, if you want to
belive in God because your life sucks and you
wish God to make it better then God is not gonna
listen to you.
God does not want to be used!
God does not want to proof himself to anyone...that is much too low for him
quote Jesus " No faith can be manifested by miracles alone. For miracles in due time become but expected normalities and a bigger more powerfull miracle will be needed"
So it is pointless to do miracles in order to manifest faith.
That is why the truely faithfull are the only once who God does
mircales for. He does not proof himself. He helps them.

But a clear answer to your question is this:
- Are you free in your choices? Are you free in what you choose?
( don't take in mind the possible penalties, you can still do it)
- Is the world full of logic and meaning?
- Is there a well structured balance in the world?
( discount human intervention...for we have freedom)
- Does everything created need a cause and a source?

Then God excists.

Next question to overstep :
- But if God is all good, all powerfull and all knowing.
How is it then that my life sucks? or how is it he allows evil?
- Does he not know it? Yes he does.
- Is he not all powerfull if he doesn't stop it? He is
all powerfull....yes...and he can stop all evil in the blink of an
eye. But that would be in conflict with the 3d trait.
All Good.
- Is God all good? YES!
But this is more than just....the good person...we see when
we say it....we are talking about a being that CANNOT
do wrong and CANNOT do evil. Evil = Wrong.

The U.S. is fighting on and on about their values of freedom.

Freedom = Good
Forced = Evil
If God would FORCE us into heaven...he would be...evil.
Heaven is good....but God forcing us in there would be evil
For he takes away our freedom.

So in order to be good...God needs to give us freedom.
Result : WE...humans...and ...Angels...and animals and all
creations....can do wrong. Can do evil.
In their initiality...we are made perfect...we are made to be
flawless. Unless a human sins...he remains flawless.
as soon as a human sins...he....fals.
he comits a flaw in his system....computer term : error
when an error occurs it has : an effect.
the effects of sin cause suffering.
Not to the outside world in particulair...
primaraly, comiting sin has a negative efect and causes
suffering for the person who sinned.

The 10 comandments are not rules that should be seen as:
If you do this...God will not love you and you shall burn in hell.
That is a WRONG way of understanding them.
God loves the sinfull equaly to the saints...would he not..he
would again not be all good.

They should be seen as following:
If you break these rules....you will suffer.
because...you will HARM....YOURSELF.

It's like : Don't jump off the bridge.
Not because i will not love you if you do...but because you will
break someting.

But there is a long story to tell.

questions.

Get out a Bible and read the book of John (4th Book of the New Testament). Once you read it...re-read it.

If you don't have a Bible, then go to: www.biblegateway.com or bible.com.

I would recommend reading the New Living Translation (NLT) or the New International Version (NIV).

Do a search for John 1.

Pray first, ask for forgiveness of your sins and then ask for Jesus to come into your heart. You must mean it...or it will never work.

Once you've done that, then I would begin reading.

It is the truth that sets us free.

God hears your prayers...

Faith comes by hearing & hearing a word about Christ / God.

So, read the Gospels (Start with John) outloud to yourself. And pray to the inspiration of the Gospel. God is the inspiration of the Gospel.

The Gospel is the good news of reconciliation / peace / restoration with God, through faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, who shed His own blood for the remission of our sins and raised from the dead for our justification.

Seek and you will find. If you have any questions, write to me. You can become born of God, washed in His blood, joint heirs with Jesus, part of the family of God. Read 1-3 John.

Read books regarding spirituality. Study different religions. Pray to the universe for answers.

To some actual believing in God is a gift.

You don't have to believe in God to have a strong self awareness. Sometimes religion hurts people more.

Be true to yourself take your time in your spiritual journey / quest.

As a christian, I pray you take your time and don't feel pressured by people who will try to make you feel guilty for not embracing their religion based on superficial scare tactics ie your going to hell if you don't accept our views...and the like...

In the Bible Romans 8:28 it tells us that "all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose". The Lord has a way aof arranging things so that good comes from bad. Not only that, but when the Lord redeems a situation, he also sends a message to other people who watch our lives.

First take ownership of the suckiness of your life. It's your life it's your fault.
Then do something about it to make it better.

This will work whether or not you find God.

Because God helps those who help themselves. (if you believe)
And making positive changes will help your life get better (if you don't)

Nobody can prove any gods, much less a specific god, exist; many people will tell you their god exists but no others, but will never be able to prove it, even if they think so. Some will threaten you with eternal pain or promise eternal joy to get you to believe in their god; these are all stories, created for people who were scared long before we understood the universe. Now we have no more reason for these superstitions.
