Go to a camera store in your area and ask the owner for recommendations...chances are they will have lists of photographers in your area.
Take a look at their websites, if they have one, and make interviews. You should try and speak with at least 4 vendors before choosing one...give yourself some options.
You should also ask any married friends who they used for their wedding...referrals are the best way to find vendors.
Another great place to look at is www.pictage.com. There are a TON of photographers listed in Connecticut, with their work being on the site. It is an easy way to look through photos (thousands of them) and ask for references from the photographers. Congrats and good luck!!

My photographer is actually a disc jockey on one of our local stations. My mom heard him talking one day about being a photographer and I wrote him an e-mail. He gave me his number, we met up, and I loved him! I tried knot.com, weddingchannel.com, and brides.com, but all of these sites had nothing. When I was searching I would just search on the internet like "photographers in Lafayette, LA" or I also went to the yellow pages and would find people and look at their websites. The phone book is also very helpful too. Just call and get prices, if the prices are good ask if you can stop by and take a look at some of their work if they do not have a website. Also if you know anybody in the past couple of years that have gotten married ask them to see their pictures and find out how much. Your resources to finding a photographer are endless. Good Luck! And remember that if a photographer is more expensive it does not always mean that they are better.

I live just outside and I used craigslist for Boston. It was awesome we posted an ad saying we were looking for a photographer and received many offers. We ended up finding a great photographer for $675 and a videographer for $500. Other than that you can use the yahoo local search page or yellow pages. The one downside to the last two is that only some places will list the price of packages. Lastly you could contact a local photography or arts school and ask for a student photographer. Good luck!

i can not really upload something else that has not already been reported. Sorry this occurred to you. What I desire is that each and each and every man or woman who's taking under consideration doing an same problem might want to work out and skim this. Now you spot why any knowledgeable photographer right here continuously BEGS for human beings to not do weddings at the same time as they haven't any adventure. On any given day there are human beings on right here declaring how they are about to do their first wedding ceremony, yet they haven't any clue a thanks to apply their kit, in the journey that they actually have first rate kit. sure, specialist images is not basically possessing a posh digital camera... sorry you've got here upon this out the complicated way. i'm assuming there became no way or style of settlement signed between you and your Aunt... so a minimum of she has no grounds to sue you.... you probable will basically have some very ill emotions for a lengthy time period... yet with any success she receives over it and perchance there are some first rate pictures from others that were there. steve EDIT... to Pooky... yea, a pair hours after I placed up my answer that idea occured to me.... WHY on earth would someone not take some looks on the video demonstrate to work out what they were getting in the course of the shoot. i'm not a "chimper" who has to seem at each and every shot on the instantaneous after it really is taken, i imagine that's stupid and wastes battery ability and time... yet... sheesh.... to take "over 1200" images and under no circumstances seem once at what you've? yet another problem basically occured to me. of route, if taking that many images, (that's thoroughly ridiculous besides), he became probable letting the digital camera fireplace off in continuous mode most of the time, and the flash did not have time to recharge.... Oh me.... digital amateurs. all of us opt to maintain this entire thread and placed up the hyperlink each and each and every time the newcomers pop up asking "what settings do i opt to position in my new DSLR for my first wedding ceremony" questions.

I called everybody i could find listed in my area and went with the cheapest one. Turns out they were right out of college, brand new business and their prices were so low cos they were just starting out. (I paid about $600 for the total package and all my negatives and prints and I had two photographers for the entire wedding and reception time)
Turns out that my photos were so beautiful and so creative cos these kids were young and fresh and full of amazing ideas.

Ask local bridal shops. They usually have contacts with most if not all of the wedding type vendors in the area.
