We make images of God based on our own human thought system. The Islamic suicide bomber is a BELIEVER and is 100% convinced (based on interpretation of his experiences) that his image of God is 100% correct. Anyone who disagrees with that image would be labeled an atheist by him. And many others have different ego-projected images of God based on our human thought system (reward, punishment). Some of the parables made it into the bible relatively unchanged (whereas most of Jesus’ message was dramatically changed) and we see Jesus trying to get this across with the prodigal son parable. The ‘good’ son is the BELIEVER who doesn’t get the nature of God but, instead, made god into his own image (one who should reward for obedience and belief, etc.). God tries to get across what the ‘good’ son missed but I’d bet he didn’t get it (which is why even if God came and spoke to all the ‘believers’, they would rather kill him instead of changing what they think God should be like).

Instead of just rambling as you do, why not ask a POINTED question we can actually address?

Believers are actually closer to God - and here is why
Because I beleive in God.
I don't argue the fact you intelligently spoke your point. However the oxymoron you propose is that you are closer to a God you do not believe in.
You dismiss the fact my ego does not punish with hell and reward with heaven., God does. It isn't MY ego at all.
I believe there is a spiritual realm in which created this realm. Time, space, this planet. I am a HUMAN BEING. Spiritual, but created, so not omnipotent. I don't have powers that in the spirit world would be consistent to other beings, I am given certain power through the Holy Spirit.
I don't believe unspeakable love could come from humans. If you think this unspeakable love comes from atheists or is shown through atheists, you haven't been on here long enough.
I don't do what I do b/c of whats in it for me and that is why I believe many Christians do not know how to witness. You need to only accept these truths in the Bible, repent and be Christ like. I pray that Gods will be done in my life. Not I want to go to heaven or give to the needy for me.
As far as your second "simpler version of the atheist/GOd question . . . .. Images of God are different than the truth. Faith and belief and how you cont rue that to fit your life does not change who God is! The idea is to get closer to God to know his nature, to be Christ like and in doing this with faith and repentence b/c you can never measure up you find favor with him and go to heaven. He created you so the nature of him is in there somewhere. He created you in his image. We, humans have interjected false notions and teachings and images yes, but his nature stays the same.
Email me and we can discuss further, I could go on and on.
God Bless

Very good post, and mostly true save for the part about the suicide bomber (Is anyone REALLY ever 100% convinced of ANYTHING?), but what is the question?

You are correct. Atheism means different things to different people. I have experienced 'God', and I follow the Christ's teachings, but I don't follow the churches and they consider me an Atheist. Also, the Atheists usually consider me a Christian, since I follow Christ's teachings.

You are speaking confusion and your lack of understanding of scripture seems obvious. Trying to make a point with you would be like talking to a wall.

I would like to point out that Islamic suicide bombers would probably call unbelievers infidels, not atheists.

It's not what God is like in our own minds, it's what we know about ourselves. We are all sinners. When we realize we are and we go to the one who came to save us from our sin then he reveals himself to us and we are able to know him, not who we think he is, but him.

i still say that i don't believe there is a being that has always been...if you're talking about an advanced being i can give 0.0000000000000000000000000001% but i will insist that even if it has been watching us for thousands of years,it would have to help us more to be really good for me...
