Sometimes when I have strep, I see them on my tonsils from infection, and they can come off at times when you eat, cough etc. This may be what they are. Hope this helps.

no might desire to rigidity out or see a doctor. those yellowish whitish buildups you get interior the back of your throat are stated as tonsil stones. they are very consumer-friendly. human beings of each age get them. they are actually not risky, only annoying. What occurs is that micro organism, plaque, in all probability food and mucous strengthen interior the mouth and reason the pungent whitish lumps you will see on the back of your throat. they might reason halitosis (undesirable breath) and each so often pop out on their very own (from coughing or gargling or very virtually something). in the event that they are bothersome you will get rid of them on your guy or woman with a flashlight, a gradual hand and a dental %.. If sticking something sharp into the back of your throat seems threatening, attempt a mushy sparkling Qtip for starters.

That's funny you ask, I work with a Pediatrician and a patient's dad asked about them not too long ago. He called them tonsil beads (or balls). Some people get them while others don't when they're sick. Nothing to worry about

It's food particles that get stuck in the back of your throat, they stay there for awhile (long enough to really start to smell) then they dislodged themselves. Nothing to worry about, but yeah they smell like ***!!

Does it happen when you are sick? I am just coming off of a bad cold and I cough up the same thing, but it is not good if you have not been sick lately. Do you smoke? It could be coming from that. It is not bad though, pretty common if you smoke or have been sick.

My sisters get these a lot. They're called tonsilloliths, or tonsil stones - basically they're calcareous forms off your tonsils. Wikipedia says they are formed from one or more of the following

* food particles
* dead white blood cells (a.k.a. "leukocytes")
* oral bacteria, possibly from mouth breathing
* overactive salivary glands

They're harmless but annoying, and you can remove them by coughing them up or poking them off your tonsils. Gargling salt water helps prevent them.

Wikipedia's got a good article on them - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonsillolith
