Will it be a creation by another intelligent being, or will it be the cumulative result of many years of selecting and improving specific discoveries, inventions, and innovations?

Perhaps I should have rephrased it as artificial consciousness.

If a consciousness can be created by another consciousness is that a creation an evolution out of a biologic form and into a digital form. And such things should be able to reproduce, being digital.

I'm sorry, but I have to call you out on this common misconception:

Artificial intelligence already exists. It is not the same as actual intelligence, which is yet to be invented in a machine. As of right now, many devices--from scientific calculators to advanced robots--display artifical intelligence, for they are able to computer long streams of logic and make decisions. However, they have no concept of self-awareness, and therefore are not truly "intelligent." The day will come when machines with actual intelligence will exist, though.

Artificial intelligence, as you already know in the primitive form of all the computer systems combined, does already exist. Please note a comparison:

*** g90 5/22 p. 31 Artificial Intelligence—On a Par With a Worm ***
“YOU may have heard a lot of talk this past year about neural networks, parallel processors, multiprocessors and other commercial and academic attempts to build computers on a scale closer to the human brain. But one thing you may not have heard much about is what this effort actually means or what the new technologies are really accomplishing. A friend at a neural network company told me that in terms of ‘biomental’ evolution, today’s products can compete head-to-head with a level of intelligence on par with a worm. Only a worm, you ask? Yep, a worm. Attempting the feats of the human brain would require . . . well, a human brain.”—Computerworld, February 27, 1989, page 21.

-As you know that those who practice true science are amazed about what they do not know about the universe. A similar conclusion has been made about the human brain:

*** w78 7/15 p. 15 The Human Brain—Three Pounds of Mystery ***

” The noted anthropologist Dr. Henry Fairfield Osborn wrote: “To my mind, the human brain is the most marvelous and mysterious object in the whole universe.”

*** w78 7/15 p. 15 The Human Brain—Three Pounds of Mystery ***

British physiologist Sir Charles Sherrington wrote: “The brain is a mystery; it has been and still will be. How does the brain produce thoughts? That is the central question and we have still no answer to it.”

-Please understand that science has barely scraped the surface of understand gravity, and all other forces that exist just in relation to the earth. alone. -
The potential for greater intelligence & understanding is not to be found anywhere but the human brain that runs all artificial intelligence.

No because The Intelligence has already created intelligence and artificial intelligence will still be created. As for life on another planet, no that would not disprove The Intelligence - I tend to believe there is life out there but that doesn't disprove God. He didn't need to limit his creativity to Planet Earth.

It wil be artifically created so it will not count. The true question is what if we discover another life form not from this planet? If that were to happen it would invalidate God because according to the bible he only made us not another alein life form. and after all to the TRUE believers if it's not in the bible it doesn't exists.

AI already exists in limited forms. You can watch a machine play chess, it doesn't understand about the moves the pieces can make but understands in numerical form their strategic value.

AI will evolve and develop, so my thoughts on these matters won't change.

They are not related. Evolution is about biology. Ask your question again when mommy and daddy robots start biologically reproducing baby robots.

it is creation. AI has nothing to do with evolution or creation. man's intelligence an technology has come by trial and error, not the advancement of human development

Your question is rather pointless, as you already know the answer. It is obviously the second one, because it is happening as we speak.

It has, anyway, nothing to do with creationism / evolution, as we already know it will not have happened spontaneously.

I think your question proves the existence of artificial intelligence.

If we do create an artificial consciousness, then we are all doomed.
