First off ADD and ADHD are two completely different things. ADD is difficulty paying attention, spacing out, poor organization, difficulty remembering things that are told to you. Etc..

On the other hand ADHD is all of those things combined with Hyperactivity and Impulsive behavior.

When I talk to my students about it. I like to compare it to Winne the pooh. IF you remember the story of when Eeyore gets thrown into the river by Tigger, I tell my kids Eeyore has ADD, and Tigger has ADHD. They like that description.

Other than that if the person doesn't have ADD/or ADHD its hard to have them understand what it feels like inside.

Good luck with this,

Hi.
My son has it- he's 8. He describes it as his brain missing a chemical that most other people have, but that medication replaces that chemical. Plain & simple. The flip side of ADHD is that he is extremely bright, as are most with this and ADD. It feels like you are always thinking, analyzing, have to move; that your mind doesn't rest or go blank, like other people's minds can. It makes it difficult to focus on one thing for an extended period of time, without medication. Again, the flip side of this is that you can multi-task in your mind better than most "regular" folks can- you are always thinking and working on "stuff" in you head, after others have gone blank!
If you have ADD/ADHD, you should count yourself lucky. You are in the company of most of the greatest inventors, artists, and other creative people in all history! Be proud.
