HI,
I have a lab that loves to be outside, I have a West Highland Terrier that loves to be outside, most dog do like it outside but some can not stay out a lot like the short nosed dogs so if you want an outdoor dog a britanny spaniel is good, or an australian sheppard.

There is a big responsibility to owning a dog and you must be sure that you are ready for it before you bring one home and then decide that that's not what you want and break the dogs heart by taking him back. Will you play and walk him everyday? Will you take him to the vet when he is sick? Will you clean up his mess? Will you be patient with him when he is learning how to live with his new family? Will you be patient with him when he makes different kinds of mistakes, and he will make mistakes. Will you make sure that he gets fed and fresh water everyday? Will you love him unconditionally as he will you? If you can honestly answer yes to all these questions then you are ready for a dog. The breed doesn't matter as much as loving and caring from him everyday and making him a part of your family, not to live outside all alone. That would be to sentence him to a life of misery and loneliness. Please consider having him inside otherwise maybe a cat would be a better choice and they don't require as much care. Oh yes all dogs bark, smaller dogs bark the most. Try going to your local animal shelter for a great take home dog who needs a good home and family.

A German or English Short Haired Pointer perfectly fits your description. They are medium sized, have short hair and don't relatively shed, and are reeaaly energetic! They basically love life and the best part about them is that they love your whole family, not just cling to one family member. They really feel like they are part of your "pack" and they love to please. Pointers are great dogs for hunting as well - we have a german pointer named Coco, and my dad and i take him hunting. We keep him in a kennel outside during the day when we are all out of the house. The only bad thing about pointers is that they are a bit too smart. All in all, though, they are wonderful dogs and you should defenitely research more about them. Good luck!

You should go with your parents to your local animal shelters. There are TONS of adult medium sized dogs that are in desperate need of homes. And the staff at the shelter usually know about the dogs personality. You can also look on petfinder.com to view dogs in shelters near you that are available. And if you want to look for a specific breed you can go to dogbreedinfo.com or AKC.org to look at all the different breeds that are available. Just make sure your family is ready for a dog, and knows how to care for one. Good Luck, and have fun finding your new dog.

lab dogs like to be out side but if your going to get a dog that doesn't bark much you would have to train it but if it doesn't bark put it in the house while its night just in case someone trys to steal something because the people stay away from the house with a barking dog the dog keeps the thief's away

Beagles are really cute, but they bark a lot.
Go to your local shelter - it's the best place to get a dog and the staff there can help place a dog/puppy that is ideal for your family.

I would suggest an American Cocker Spaniel. Ther are adorible ,easy to take care of ,not a big dog loves to be outside and they don't bark alot. I have an American Cocker Spaniel and he normaly does not shed.

I would advise with all of the things you have said above....A Bernese mountain dog. They are so sweet and they do shed, but if your parents are okay with that, their fine. They do not bark a lot and they come from the mountains~~~outside :)
I hope that you have a fun time w/ your dog!!!
(look into a Bernese mountain dog...)

beagles are awesome, but i don't know about the barking. my parents have a beagle and he definitely does his share of barking and howling. he does love to be outside though. he just sticks his nose to the ground and sniffs around for HOURS. its ridiculous.

do you have a lot of space? a border collie might be all right, but they need space to run about.

maybe a sheltie, too. they are pretty easy - going.

but make sure your parents know any dog will bark to some degree. larger breeds tend to bark less, but louder.
