Tomorrow is the day I've circle on my calendar to quit smoking cigarretes and stop drinking. I've smoked a pack of cigs a day since I was 18 (now 35) and have been drinking a half of bottle a wine a night for about 2 years. I want to quit both. Do you think I should try it one at a time, or cold turkey both of them? I seriously think I'm going to go insane. Any advise?

I did the same thing. I quit 16 years ago without gum or patches. But first I quit drinking. Then I quit smoking about 6 months later. If you can quit both at the same time GO FOR IT!!! It can be done. You will need will power and others around you to give you support. I'll be here if I can help in any way at all. GOOD LUCK!!!

Congratulations on your attempt to better yourself. I too drink wine nightly, (2-3 glasses with water) and I smoke (only when I drink wine. Only about 2-3). I can relate and I'm proud of you. I feel we all willpower to quit anything if we are truly determined. This has worked for me for a number of things: Self-discipline. Simply tell yourself you are not allowed to have any wine for one day, but continue to smoke. Alternate daily. Eventually, tell yourself, no wine for the week then the following, no smoking. After a while, your body will adjust. The human body is vulnerable to habits but easily adaptable to change. I have been practicing this method to keep myself (and habits) in moderation. Good luck. Remember: The power is within you.

I smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a day and one whole bottle of wine. I recommend trying to quit the smokes first and see how that goes. They are the most addictive, the most expensive and the most unhealthy.
(Frankly... I think the wine is the only thing keeping me healthy.)

But if you want to give that up too.... I'd wait until you are comfortably and confidently smoke-free.

Good Luck!

Cold Turkey... and BOTH. BUT PLAN for exercise and other things to keep you busy and work off the frustration !!

I quit BOTH back in 1996... and went 2 years... then went back to sea (Navy) and started smoking again. I quit again...

Now I only drink (beer) on Friday after work and Saturday while I do chores... I buy a pack of smokes and give them away.

It's a ***** !! Seriously though... good luck.

This may not work for everyone, It does work for me...I decided I have had enough of of spending a fortune and ruining my health on these horrible habits. So i deciced to do something radical. I put a couple of cigaretts in my beer and let it steep for a while. Best of both worlds you might think, Well, try it and if you do, be close to a place to hurl. It will probably happen. Works for me anyway.Good luck on any way you chose to quit.

cold turkey. both. they go hand in hand. If I didn't drink, I wouldn't smoke. So stop. 3 days the cravings subside. After that, just resist. YOU CAN DO IT.
