Well, as I am aware only Mormons and Witnesses are doing a door to door work.
Witnesses do try to engage in conversation at the door. It is a right they have secured in the highest court in the land.
However, we don't knock on the door for 20 minutes.
We do, however, realized that some cannot get to the door as quickly as others, so we take this into consideration as well.
We also understand that some are upset because of the acts of lawlessness as well as some of the unscriptural teachings that have taken place in sects of Christendom. Because of this we try to clarify why they feel as they do. Many excellent Bible Studies have been started because of missinformation about Bible teachings as well as missinformation about things said about Jehovah's Witnesses beliefs.
Every Witness believes and understands that they are engaged in a lifesaving work that will never be repeated, hence we have a passion to help individuals learn what the Bible really teaches.
As a matter of fact that is the latest publication that we place with people to help them understand the Bible, God's Kingdom and a well founded hope for the future.
Sorry, you feel the way you do. We are just the messenger.
We just do as we are commanded just as Ezekiel did in his day:
Ezekiel 3:17-21
And we follow our command from Jesus as well:
"“Into whatever city or village YOU enter, search out who in it is deserving, and stay there until YOU leave. When YOU are entering into the house, greet the household; and if the house is deserving, let the peace YOU wish it come upon it; but if it is not deserving, let the peace from YOU return upon YOU. Wherever anyone does not take YOU in or listen to YOUR words, on going out of that house or that city shake the dust off YOUR feet." -Matthew 10:11-14

I love when they come to my house. I invite them in, and then educate them about their religion. :) I'm polite and patient with them, and I invite them to provide arguments, but they are usually dumbfounded.
It's quite funny. I really get them steamed. And actually, I think I was placed on a "do not knock" list eventually, because I have seen them actively skip my house as they go through the neighborhood.

I dont know to whom you are refering,However in my public
ministry I only knock on a persons door once,I wait a reasonable
amount of time 1 or 2 mins. at most.No one I know bangs on a
door for 20 mins.!And when told that (they are not interested) I
thank them wish them a nice day,and leave. It is not our intent to
bother or disturb anyone,we are ingaged in a life saving work, and
under command of Christ Jesus to declare the Good news of Gods
Kingdom, and to preach from door to door and house to house.
(Acts.20:20)"And this good news of the Kingdom will be preached
in all the inhabited earth for a Witness to all the nations and then
the end will come.(Matt.24:14)We believe that END to be very near at hand.hence the preaching work has an urgency.

I agree that they should take the first "No" as an answer--I do not like it when people ignore my answer and try to push their beliefs on me. That just drives people away even more. As to why they knock for 20 minutes--not sure. Maybe they know you are home.

In their defense, I can see how Christianity could drive you a little batty in this way. If they believe that those who do not share their beliefs are going to burn for eternity, I suppose it makes sense that they would be desperate to save as many people as possible from that fate. But yeah, for those of us who have long since decided it's a ridiculous notion, it's really annoying. If you say you're not interested and they continue to push, I think it's entirely within your rights to say whatever you think is neccesary to make it clear that they are not welcome back.

Most people who knock on doors are cults, i.e. the JW's or Mormons. So being cult members they are tormented and wont be polite, a true Christian (born again) will usually be polite and respectful. Don't let the false drive you from the true.

When people knock on my door with the intention of converting me to their religion, I invite them in and try to convert them to atheism. It's good fun.

Because they think if you listen to them for awhile, you will start to believe with they think. I am very grounded in my faith, I see a Jehovah's witness or a mormon coming, I lock the door, turn off the TV and tell the kids to hide and be quiet until they leave, lol.

Power in numbers.
They are weak in their faith, so they need a lot of people to agree with them so they can believe they're right. Or, someone to argue with, so they can feel crucified.
This is all completely ignoring the teachings of Christ.
Just point a gun and tell them salvation is back the way they came from.
