Dear Uncle--- and Aunt---,

Thank you so much for taking the time to send me a gift card. It was really thoughtful of you and I just want you to know that, even though we don't get to see each other very often, it makes me feel special that you remembered me with this gift.

Love,

Your Niece,

-----

Is it from Anthropologie? Thant's actualy an awesome store - a bit overpriced, but it sells some great clothes - vintage-looking.

Anyway, it was terrific that they thought of you after not seeing you so long. They were reaching out.

I think it's great that you want to do the right thing by writing the thank you note.

I would word it like this:
Dear Aunt (her name) and Uncle (his name),
Thank you so much for the gift card! I really appreciated it. I had a nice birthday (and you could list some of what you did and some of the presents you received.)
I hope we get a chance to see each other again soon. Again, thanks for the gift card!
Love,
(Your name)

It will be newsy and appreciative... not a big lie at all. Family is important., even if you don't get to see each other very often.
Take it easy.

Why did you trade out on your aunt and uncle who you rarely ever get to see. In that itself was rude. So what if its not what you always wanted and its not the next new style of jeans or whatever. The gift you received should symbolize more than that. I'm sure you could of found a better use for the gift card other than sell it to your mom. Grow up. When you get older people don't get you as much. Cherish what you have now.

The meaning behind a gift is just that.........They took the time to get you something......even if they misunderstood, they took the time. You thank them for "thinking of you" and then back it up by telling them how much you love them/appreciate them. Corrections to their gift will only make them feel bad, and to give is a wonderful thing...........It's really the thought that counts, and I am sure your aunt and uncle were "thinking of you" even if they mis understood.

As has been said about giving of a gift--it is indeed the 'thought that counts'--you can send a general thank you note without being specific about the gift.
If you feel funny about that explain after you have thanked them. You appreciated the gift & benefited from it, either way you are not lying.

sometimes we have to tell a white lie to keep from hurting those we love, for instance, did mom ever cook something for you and you told her you loved it when actualy it was all you could do to not throw up or vomit, write your aunt and uncle and thank them, make sure mom is in on white lie

Anyway, she says KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) Just buy a small card or postcard and write Thank You on it!
