How long is purchased chip dip good for (Frito Lay in a jar). The expiration date says Aug 2007, but I'm assuming that's if it's not opened.

It needs to be refrigerated after opening. I would say it would probably be good for up to 10 days. If the dip gets a bit watery, just stir it up.

It depends on what it is. General rule of thumb would be about a week or so. If it is a cheese dip, chances are it can last maybe 2 weeks.
If it is a dairy based dip, I would probably stick to about a week - as you do not want the risk.
If it is a bean dip, 2 weeks is probably OK.

Assuming its not open, I'm sure its still good.
If its open... I'd be weary of it if its more than a month or so. If its been refrigerated the whole time then it might be OK but if there isn't much left then you might as well toss it. As long as it tastes allright and isn't moldy then it should be OK tho.

Actually, anything that says it's expiration date, means it expires no matter what, no matter if it has been opened or not, it expires on that day. I guess you could eat that dip within a couple months?

I wouldn't keep it opened for more than 7 days, in the fridge...

is it smooth and does it smell right
if it looks discolored then don't eat it
and that is the date for if its unopened
