I had a puppy who contracted parvo before i got him. He died two days later. I have cleaned anywhere that his fluids thouched with a bleach mixture. Is a new puppy in the same house a good idea or a bad idea?

DONT buy a new puppy until you have had the house professionally sprayed and cleaned and what-not because the germs of the horrible disease are still in the house!!!!! PLEASE DONT BUY A PUPPY UNTIL YOU CLEAN THE HOUSE PROFESSIONALLY

Parvo can live in the environment for up to a year.. A bleach cleaning should kill it. However I would try to avoid the same areas with a new puppy. The puppy will not be fully immunized against parvo until about 6 months old. And some breeds of dogs are more susceptible to parvo than others.Your vet may give you some suggestions and you might try cleaning the areas again with PARVOSOL.. I don't know if pet stores carry it. Perhaps your vet can help you get some.

Clean ALL areas where your previous puppy TOUCHED with a bleach mixture. This includes linoleum, concrete, your yard, food and water bowls, carpet, fabric, etc. Parvo is a virus that can live up to 6 months in your home or yard and if you missed any area there's a chance of reoccurance. You can also have your vet pull blood from your new puppy and run a titre to test the levels of immunity against parvo BEFORE you bring him into your home. Good luck

NO!!!!!!!!!!!! Not if it has been within the last 6 months. Parvo stays in the environment for at least 6 months. Even if it has had its first set of shots they can still get it. Even if it has had all 3 sets of puppy shots you are just asking for trouble. Either get an older (at least 1yr+) that is current or wait at least 6 months. Just be safe you dont want to lose another puppy to parvo.

How long has it been since your puppy died (sorry to hear about that :( ) ? How young is the puppy?? I would make sure it has ALL its shots(booster and everything.... last parvo shot should be at 16 weeks old).

Bad idea, parvo is a virus and stays in enviroment for at least 5 years or so. Did you burry puppy in the yard?
Tell your vet your story and see what they say.
So you are not risking the puppy.
How many shots has it had? more than one might be ok.

i think it should be okay if you cleaned it that well but being someone that has also had i puppy w/parvo i would'nt do it. i wouldn't want to take a chance of putting another puppy through the pain that the last one went through. i'd wait 6 months or so.

NO!! Avoid this at all costs. If you must go to the house make sure before you toch or go near your puppy you change your clothes, and dip your shoes in a mild bleach solution. Don't take the chance of bringin home a very serious virus to your pup.
