I assume you don't live close to where you were born, if you do, visit that Registry Office.
You could do it all on line, but it'll cost.
Initially, you need a reference off the web site 1837online. (I think it's changed it's name but 1837online should still find it).
You'll have to buy credits. Then you search for an initial reference by using your name and your date of birth.
Let's say you were born in Paddington Jan 1970. You'll get to list of births from which you should find the reference to your entry into this cruel world.
You will get a reference like this
Paddington Jan-Mar 1970 Vol 3 Page 349b
On the same site, you can go to a page where you can order a copy of your Birth Cert on line. That'll cost you £7. It'll be with you in a few days.

Hey Matt,
If you can remember the place your birth was registered you can give them a call ! I had to sort a birth cert out for my sons passport and rang the registration office, they asked the usual questions, name date of birth etc but a few days later i got a copy in the post. Worth a try asking them i think.

go to your nearest registry office make sure you take proof of who you are like a passport or driving license (something with a photo on) explain the situation and they will have to issue a new birth certificate with a fee of around £10 its the only way you can get the number
