I wonder the same thing. It has to be ignorance or laziness. People don't want to go through the process of being evaluated at the Humane Society or other Rescue. There are so many wonderful rescue dogs and puppies out there. Not only that, the puppies in pet store did not start life off well - usually in overcrowded, dirty puppy mills. I would never buy a dog from a pet store.

It is unfortunate that so few people really know where these puppies come from. They either come from mills or from BYB (responsible, reputable breeders do NOT ever sell puppies through pet stores). Often times people do know but buy anyay thinking they are doing a good thing when in reality all they are doing is encouraging the mills/BYB to pump out more puppies, to over breed the moms until they are all used up..and the cycle continues. If people would stop buying from Pet Stores it would help reduce the number of BYB/Mills, it would be great if more peopel got involved in seeking legislation to ban all pet stores from selling puppies & kittens. Also it would help if they didn't shop at stores that sell puppies/kittens.

If they knew what the dogs went through, few would. Sadly, many want to "save" puppies too...not understanding that another will now take it's place and the poor parents are still trapped in the mill. The ONLY way to make a statement and stop this is to not fall into the pity trap...don't buy! When they no longer sell, they will no longer be bred. It's all about profit, don't let them profit off of suffering.

I believe that people do not have the knowledge about pet stores. I did not know any different until I started researching a certain breed. I then was introduced to puppy mills, and pet stores. It's sad for the animal, but you shouldn't spend that much money on a low quality animal.

Because they are mostly either: too lazy to find a breeder or uninformed about puppy mills and pet stores.

Not all pet shops are bad, just as not all breeder are responsible. You just have to research and have the dog checked out by a vet.

Convenience. I don't know where the great breeders are. They are unknown to most. Have a nice day.
