The Mosaic Law (the ten commands and the other 603 that no one mentions) was brought in to show humans that they needed a redeemer.

As Galatians 3:19 shows:

"Why, then, the Law? It was added to make transgressions manifest"

The Law fulfilled perfectly its purpose to make transgressions manifest. It set bounds, pointing out clearly what Jehovah God required as to the conduct of his people. Being imperfect, the Israelites were unable to keep that Law perfectly. Hence, it made their transgressions manifest. The Law showed undeniably that the Israelites needed to be forgiven of their transgressions, also that a sacrifice was required that really could atone for their sins.

As a tutor, the Law served to prepare the Israelites to receive the Messiah or Christ. In ancient times, the tutor or pedagogue was not the teacher, as a teacher in a school is. His responsibility was to keep the child from physical and moral harm. He could discipline the child and instruct it in matters of conduct. But he did not provide all the instruction needed. The tutor accompanied the child to school, turning it over to the instructor there.

"Consequently the Law has become our tutor leading to Christ, that we might be declared righteous due to faith. But now that the faith has arrived, we are no longer under a tutor."
-Galatians 3:24-25

Being born is NOT a sin, however, just like a dent in a bread pan, when you bake another loaf, so to speak, you have that dent or 'imperfection' in successive loafs. So it is with humans throughout history except for Adam and Eve.

The earth had and still has a prospect to be the home of perfect humans that will live for ever in perfection. It was a command that, although wasn't fulfilled by Adam and Eve, does not nullify God's Word for it to be completed.

Genesis 1:28; Psalms 37:9-11, 29, 34; Luke 23:43;
and Job 14:13-15 speaks of the Resurrection of the dead that will come about during the Mellenial Reign of Christ.

So, although we all sin and 'fall short' which is the Archery term for Sin............we can be forgiven on the basis of the perfect sacrifice of Christ Jesus.

Said about Jesus by Zechariah:

"But as for you, young child, you will be called a prophet of the Most High, for you will go in advance before Jehovah to make his ways ready, to give knowledge of salvation to his people by forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender compassion of our God. " -Luke 1:76-78

Sin is anything that is contrary to the law or will of God. For example: if you lie, you have sinned. Why? Because God has said not to lie (Exodus 20:16). If you do what God has forbidden, then you have sinned. In addition, if you do not do what God has commanded, you sin (James 4:17). Either way, the result is eternal separation from God (Isaiah 59:2). Sin is lawlessness (1 John 1:3) and unrighteousness (1 John 5:17). Sin leads to bondage (Rom. 6:14-20) and death (Rom. 6:23).

Paul, in the book of Romans, discusses sin. He shows that everyone, both Jew and Greek, is under sin (Rom. 3:9). He shows that sin is not simply something that is done, but a condition of the heart (Rom. 3:10-12). In Ephesians Paul says that we are "by nature children of wrath" (Eph. 2:3). Yet, "while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly" (Rom. 5:6).

That the first two humans, who were perfect, and had to ability to never sin, decided to sin. Therefore messing the rest of us up. There is not point to sin. We do it, because we are not perfect, and even if we were perfect, I am sure some people would be dumb enough to sin anyways, even though they are no longer inclined to it.

Sin is like jumping off a building. The first 2 people "jumped off, and all of their babies were born in the air, falling of the building." If we were perfect, we could decide not to jump off. Some people might be dumb enough to jump anyways. Please understand the last 4 sentences were an illustration, and completely symbolic. You cannot have a baby in the air, it is an example.

Dear Mr. Superdawg:
Sin is a consequence.
We pay the price for things that happened before we were born.
Sin is a state ....a condition, in which we find ourselves.
We are, indeed, born into this state.
In Psalm 51:5 King David said:
"With error I was brought forth with birth pains, and in sin my mother conceived me."
We can thank Adam for that.
We fight against sinning, but it seems it often has the upper hand.
There is no point to sin ....it is a disease to be rid of.
Only God can help us get rid of sin.
Plans are underway.

Humans were created in the imagine and likeness of God. We failed however in our freewill, initially. Jesus corrected our initial sin due to our inexperience in confronting evil.

Sin is the turning away from our created being, our purpose for creation. Sin is rejecting our better selves. Sin is confusing or renouncing True Love.

Sin gives pleasure for a short time, but the consequences are eternal. Jesus paid the price for sin, so if you ask Him into your heart and try to live by the bible, you will be saved. If after you are saved, you mess up again, be sorry for it and willing to turn away from the sin , and ask God to forgive you and He will. We are to strive for perfection, but we have Jesus to help us out when we fall.

sin was put in place to scare people into not doing or doing things. Back in those days where people were VERY gullible and would believe anything someone in a high position told them to do. Think about it, if the bible said that it was a sin to eat on wednesdays and sundays and if you did eat, a lemon tree would grow outta your butt, to this day I guarentee you that people would still believe it

Sin is an archery term meaning "miss the mark". To sin is to miss the mark. Practice makes perfect, so work on hitting the mark.

a sin is basically an act that goes against God, no one is perfect that's why we have reconciliation, and baptism cleanses one of the sin we are born with.

The theological definition of sin is "separation". It is not a list of behavior. It is separation from God, ourself and others. Anything that separates you is a sin. We were meant to live in communion with God, self and others.
