a meter is not too different than a yard, so just check your measuring tape for the cm and m markings (generally, in the us, inch markings on the top edge and metric on the bottom edge of the metal tape measures).
if your room is a straight square or rectangle, it's way easy: just measure down the long wall and the short wall, and multiply these numbers together. example, if your room is 7 meters long and 9.5 meters wide, your floor is 66.5 square meters.
if your room is an irregular shape, draw a rough diagram on a piece of paper. measure each wall. write the measurements down on your diagram. take the diagram with you to the store you're buying the laminate from, and they'll be able to help you calculate how much you need.
