I have noticed a new trend. My younger cousins are sending out a "save this date" refrigerator magnet or card; months or even a year in advance of date. Actual invitations 6 weeks in advance.
Congratulations .. October is a great month!!

The average is 6-8 weeks in advance, so the end of August, early September would be ideal. If you anticipate many guests may have to make special arrangements you should send save the date cards 6 months in advance or earlier if you anticipate many issues. I would not advise you to send the actualy invitations more than 2.5 months early because some may lose them, forget to reply, or forget when the wedding is! Good luck!

6-8 weeks before the ceremony, with the respond by date to be approximately 1-2 weeks before the ceremony in order to ensure that you can follow up with those who have not responded and to give the caterers/reception site a final guest count. If you have a lot of people traveling for your wedding, it is appropriate to send a Save the Date announcement approximately 6 months out to ensure that they can start planning to travel for your wedding. The Save the Date should indicate "Invitation to follow".

Are there many people having to get time off?
Are your guests going to have to travel across country?
Is it a destination wedding?
The more time you give guests to prepare the better.
Our wedding was October 8, 2006 and we sent out invites out in April and May--we were STILL turned down because people already had plans.
People will tell you to wait 6-9 weeks. That's a load of bull. Take the pressure of everything and send them at least 3 months in advance--you'll be able to call and contact those who don't seem to respond well to invitations.

Invitations should be sent out 6-8 weeks before the wedding date...so, with a date on October 20th, you should be looking to mail them out the week of August 20th, or so.
A little tip also, make sure that you don't mail them out when it is raining outside...the moisture might make the ink run, and you don't want that!! Wait for a dry day to do the mailing.

you should send invitations 3 to 6 months before your wedding. Closer to 6 months if you have reletives that are invited that live out of the country. Ask for a RSVp one month before your wedding (Semptember 20th, 2007) so you aren't scrambling and because this is when you will have to tell companies (Caterer, location, etc.) your final head count.
Congratulations and good luck!

You should send out 'Save the Date' postcards 6 months before. That way your guests have ample time to plan.
Then send the real invitations about 2 months before.
Congratulations!!!

I would say 6 weeks before unless there is a holiday near you wedding day then give more time.(thanksgiving is in October in Canada) Also if you are afraid people won't be able to get time off send out save the date cards as soon as possible so people can get time off work.

hey we have the same date!!! =) i think you should send your invites 6-8 weeks before the wedding...but make sure you inform all your out-of-town guests with the date maybe 4-5 months ahead of time so they can book their time-off from work to attend your wedding...
goodluck, im excited for you..
