I just bought some frozen soft shell crabs at the local market.
They did not have their legs on them. I could not see any eyes.
I assumed they were cleaned, or dressed. So I go home and I deep fry them, and when I tried them, there was a lot of gritty stuff coming into my mouth. I am not sure if it was sand or if it was just the contents of the crab. What do you think? Will I be ill?

As there shedding there old shells when there caught, it would not be sand, unless they were trapped in cages and then dragged to the surface, normally the do some cleaning like the lungs and roe, so they should have been grit free, I was a chef for 20 yrs in Canada with several hotels in Toronto, and worked in both B.C and Nova Scotia, I never came acrossed any griity soft shell crabs, so it could have be they were not rinsed in processing, I would as the first respondant said report this to the place you purchased them, as they were frozen, it would not be something they had much control over, for the next time just give them a gentle rinse under cool water

Sounds like they weren't cleaned. You won't get physically ill, but I got queasy reading what happened.
