Depending on the type of agency you work with will depend upon what your duties are. If you work for a Sheriff's Office, you will be driving a car as there is more area to cover. Working for the State Police would be the same! However, larger cities employing the use of "beat" or walking officers, horse patrol, motorcycle officers, etc., will most likely give you an option based upon what is available that is comensurate with your knowledge and experience.

Car or foot, In most departments you wouldn't see the inside of a car for at least a year. Rookies have to pay dues. like a foot beat in February when its 0 and the wind is kicking your a-- or rousting drunks that have puked all over you. yeah rookie stuff. Car yeah right

The choice would not be yours, but would depend on the needs/demands of the department. Later in your carreer you might get that option, but not a a rookie.

My guess would be, depending on the State, whatever you sign up for. Unless they are full on the position you've applied for, I'd say, where ever they need the most people.
