why is he referred to as a male, if he isn't a person? how can something be a HE if it isnt a human (or animal..etc.). it is my understanding that god=life, but then how could he be male or female? or for that matter, why is it not a female? because the image of god was created by men, that is my opinion. however i am trying to understand this from a Christian standpoint, i just have no grasp on the concept of him being a He, but not a human. as a spirit he obviously doesnt have male genitalia, isnt that what makes a man a man? so please explain to me your reasoning that God is a man. thanks!

thanks for not answering my question some of you... i wasnt asking how many different examples you can find of him being called a HE...
but for those of you who are actually answering what i am asking, THANKS! since i believe in a god that has no gender, it makes sense what you are saying, that he is only REFERRED to as such. this reitereates my thoughts that man created this image.

God is neither male or female. That's just how the sexist men who wrote the Bible wanted to portray God.

One good indicator is when He became human to die for us, He chose to go into the form of a man (Jesus). Also, God created MAN in His own image, then He created Eve from Adam's rib. Eve is also made in God's image, but Adam was more direct (but Adam and Eve are still equals). Also, people have heard God speak (in Biblical times), perhaps His voice is obviously male. Or, you could look at it this way: God is male, He created Adam as male, and when He made Eve, He invented something new.

I believe women have been repressed for a very long time, I mean...why did EVE get BLAMED for eating the apple? I think this story was a ploy to make women seem uncapable and unworthy. The bible was a story written by MEN for MEN. Notice how Mary Magdalene was deemed a prostitute and she was the woman more noticeably "close" to Jesus. I believe we are here because of extraterrestial beings. There is a grander universe and it is really ignorant for us to think we are the only life in it. So to answer your question God is a HE because a lot of people confuse JESUS with GOD...Jesus was a man and "GOD created him in his image"....but that cant be true because women create LIFE....what can men do? FIGHT WARS?

I am glad you are struggling. Good insights usually come from such.
As you may know, many languages assign a sexual pronoun/state to objects. They are not big on it. Trees are female, rocks are male etc.
In the Bible, female God is known in the words translated Wisdom. Perhaps that is a bias from somewhere? On the other hand, God has many names as people struggled to define their God separate from surrounding cultures. Some of these names have to sexual reference while others tend toward the masculine out of the meaning ALL POWERFUL, FEAR, etc.
When it comes out in translation, Wisdom in Proverbs is "she". Like so much of culture for so long, the pronoun tends to go "he" in the absence of specific direction. Thus God becomes "he' rather than "it" when grammar demands a pronoun.

I have never read anywhere in the Word of God where it says that God was a man. I have read that He is a spirit. Man was created in God's 'image'. Not just like Him. That is why man can be human and God remain a spirit. May God Bless U.

God does not equal life.
God created life.
God is a spirit, but is referred to in the masculine.
Since I have yet to visit heaven, I can only go by what I read about it.
I would be a man with or without genitalia. That is what allows man to procreate. However God doesn't have to procreate if he has the ability to create.

God is who He says He is. We can't just make up God in our own image. If we did that then it would be a false god. I would rather serve the true God which is made up of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Three divine persons = one true God.
Some things about God are a mystery, but if we are humble we will be obedient to His will for us to call Him a Him.

god has no gender we only refer to him in the masculine form as it was done years ago. the masculine form was just decided. however god specifies clearly in the original bible and the quraan that god is not like men and women he has no gender - so ppl really do not no any way of calling him so it is easier to go with referring him as a 'he'.

I think you've got it. "because the image of god was created by men." In ancient societies, women were servants only.

God the Son became a man, Jesus. And Jesus said to pray the "Our Father" prayer.
