Relax, relax, relax. Sounds like OCD. I too have suffered from it all my life. Medication is available that will really help you. This is a form of anxiety that you think will drive you nuts. There is a book you should read called "The Boy Who Couldn't Stop Washing." It will provide a lot if insight into what causes this and give you hope that it can be treated. Find a psychologist or mental health clinic where you can get treatment and information. I made a decision that I didn't care what people thought of me, I just knew I had to get help. Boy, am I glad I did! Now I can openly talk about it without fear of judgment. Don't spend the rest of your life in misery. This is an illness. You would seek medical help for cancer, right?? Don't wait another day!!

There is always hope. Do you have a counselor that you can talk to? Have you consider taking medications to relieve the anxiety associated with the ocd?

I have ocd mildly. I can't stand things to not have a pattern. I continously have to have certain things in certain places and if it is not in that place, I can't just walk away from it. Though my house is in total chaos all the time, my things are exactly where I need them to be.

The pattern issue has been so bad at times that while at the emergency room one night, I immediately noticed that the floor did not have a distinct pattern to it. The squares were sparatically placed here and there. It was absolutely driving me insane. I had to keep my eyes closed to avoid looking at the floor until my turn was called. Thankfully when I was taken into a treatment room, the floor tiles were different and had a pattern to them. LOL

The only thing you can do right now is think about how to fix the problem then take steps in doing that. I know it is difficult, but you have to do this to prevent it from controlling your life.

Best wishes to you and all that you do! May God bless you.

Sorry to hear that ur feeling so hopeless about this. There r definately meds on the market that can help with ocd and the obssessive thoughts that go with it. I work in this field and have come across many ppl with ocd, once on the right medication they function "normally" in life. Please seek some doctors advice in regards to this, life is NOT hopeless and u will see that once u get treated for it. A lot of "normal" ppl have ocd in little ways that some of them probably dont even notice. Maybe they like to stack the dishwasher just so, like having shoes at the front door facing a certain way, prefer having books on coffee tables being stacked instead of strewn about. OCD comes in many forms some extreme and some so small one doesnt even notice. Again please see ur doctor, there is treatment out there for u. What do u have to lose.. Good luck!

This is the answer I gave someone else who thought they had OCD:

I have OCD and I'm afraid it doesn't really ever go away, you just learn to adjust so that it doesn't take over your life. Mine are noticeably worse when I'm stressed about something, so keeping calm helps. I have various 'things' - checking plugs, which at one point was so bad I was late for everything because I couldn't get out of the house. Cleaning my teeth, pretty obsessive about that (on the plus side, very shiny teeth and no halitosis, lol). I set myself little 'challenges', like I must have all the forks back in the drawer before the washing machine door clicks. I can't help it and have done it for years, but the difference now is I know nothing bad happens if I don't manage to complete the 'task'. It's about getting perspective and realising there's nothing wrong with your blinds having to be perfect, as long as it doesn't stop you getting on with things.

If you have an understanding family that's good. Maybe talk to your doctor if it gets out of hand again, they can refer you to specialists in OCD and behavioural issues.

Today, I spotted a website for OCD Awareness Week, have a look - maybe there's something there that could help: http://www.ocduk.org/awareness-week

Good luck :)

This disorder is real and it is also manageable! Don't give up.

Read up a bit on the internet about the disorder and recognize that it is a chemical imbalance that can be managed with medication. I know it can be devastating and time consuming but if you let yourself be treated you can find relief that is acceptable and will make your life manageable again.

Believe me. I know your pain. The worst thing you can do is keep it a secret. You may not want to tell your family, but I bet they know.

Get medical assistance and put your mind to rest. I know that it is in overdrive stressing over it all. Afterall, OCD is an anxiety disorder.

Well quite frankly the only thing you can do is see a doctor! I'm sorry but there really is no better advice anyone on here can give you. I've come across people with OCD and honestly it can be controlled with treatment and medication and people who were once dispairing are now leading full lives. You must make that move to get help though. See your doctor.

Honey. THERE IS HOPE. I have OCD and I am on an anti-anxiety, Celexa. Also therapy helps alot. You may never be cured, but you will get better and be able to live a normal life. Don't give up. There is so much they can do now-a-days that we don't have to suffer anymore! Good Luck! And know, you are not alone!

Katie - Aiin! I have OCD for 15 years and only recently i found solution for it, dont listen to these people - they talk like bunch of politics lots of talk and no action, if you want help just drop me message or skype me, i know how terrible is OCD at its worst, talking about Self Control and Therapies - its just a waste of time, most doctors dont even really care, they just charge you with bills, and you will be in even worse situation.
skype me S.e.n.s.e.s.8.5.1 (without dots) and i will try to help.

Most people I know go through OCD actions when young, it's normal but you have to grow out of it. I feel you're labeling yourself & limiting urself.
I'm sorry don't know what else to suggest but contact this organisation, they're really helpful & kind.(c link)
They also have monthly meetings (free) in all areas of uk.
Also, I wanted to suggest healing, it helps with everything (c link) type in ur postcode 4 nearest centre (they work on donations only & they're very kind & understanding).
I just wanted to recommned this book, I thought you might like it!
lots of luv
