If you are moving to Burbank, I recommend either living near the border of Toluca Lake or near the Media Center in Downtown Burbank above Glenoaks. I have lived in Burbank for three years now, and I really enjoy it here. The area is quiet and the school system is good. There are quite a number of small parks and a lot of community activities are available. It is centrally located and you have access to a few different freeways (the 134, the 101, the 170 and the 5) to get you all around SoCal. A con is that Burbank real estate tends to be a bit more expensive than other parts of the valley, but it is still probably less than you saw in San Francisco, and there really isn't much of a night life except for the one small group of restaurants and bars near the mall on San Fernando Blvd. If neither of those things are an issue, that you will love Burbank. Best of Luck!

Housing is really expensive if you guys are planning on buying make sure to do your homework since Burbank is pretty much overpriced if you are planning on renting use Craigslist.org, renting is way over the board here. The cons are you will get bored, there is really not much to do , we have a couple of malls that are really not that great, stuff is more expensive so you might want to check the best places to buy your groceries.
Pros , Burbank has one of the best police force and firefighters I've seen, they respond very quickly and they are mostly nice guys that want to help, utilities are never an issue, traffic is not terrible, in general is a nice, quiet place to live... again, your teenager will get bored unless he is into chasing celebrities. Good luck!

AprilDawn has got it pegged pretty well.
The housing is more expensive than average, so are utilities. On the upside, it only has a population of about 100k, it's own police and fire, so it's relatively safe. Schools are decent, huge tax base, so there are plenty of parks, libraries, and the like. Things are maintained pretty well, except for potholes.
There is plenty to do here. There must be more movie theaters per square mile than anywhere on earth. Shopping, too.
It has it's share of gang problems, but the police are pretty bored, so the gangs give them something to do. Which reminds me, the police are not shy about giving tickets, so drive like an old lady here, which you may have to anywhere as traffic is a *****.
Some neighborhoods are better than others, usually you can tell which just by looking at them. Above Glenoaks is good, the Rancho district near the Equestrian center.
One thing I've noticed about the city, it is really easy to get lost. I still do even after 12 years. So get a Thomas Guide and learn how to use it.
