The best thing is to call the his physician and tell him of the symptoms this way it can be diagnosed properly. I dont want to tell you what i think it is and what to make it better and it makes it worst. Call his dr in the morning before it gets any worse

There is nothing more in soft water versus unsoftened well water to be allergic to. You are replacing Calcium and Iron with Sodium and or Potassium. Both of these elements are found in your body already. With that being said.... I also recommend a filtering system as part of your water supply. A 5 micron sediment pre-filter and a activated charcoal post water softener filter if Sulfurs are in the water. They will also prevent clogging of the water softener mechanism.

Soft water for neophytes to it do make a common error and use WAY TO MUCH SOAP in their laundry. This could easily be an allergy to soap and fabric softeners remaining in the clothing.

The fix is simple...

1. Cut down on the amount of soap used 1/8th to 1/4 the amount you used with hard water.
2. Switch to simple liquid soaps like fragrance free liquid tide.
3. Stop using fabric softeners on clothing .
4. When the wash stops, rotate the dial to rinse again and add 1 full cup of vinegar (clear acetic acid) to the wash to dissolve soap out of the fabric.
5. Re-wash his existing clothing and bedding to at least go through another rinse cycle with the vinegar.
6. Switch to simple body soaps like BASIS or Lever 2000 and use less on the washcloth and rinse a little longer in the shower.

That should stop the problem.

There are other reasons for rash...
1. He has started up a new medication since the rash began. (Consult with your physician)
2. Food allergy
3. Allergy to construction materials or carpeting.
4. Rash secondary to a recent viral infection (pityriasis rosacea) This leaves a very itchy rach over most of the body with coin-like raised red rash. Usually one about the side of a half dollar. This is self limiting and Benadryl helps.

Benadryl will help with symptoms of the rash but better to stop the cause in the first place. I teach my patients to stop the cause and not focus only on treating the symptoms. Since you state that this rash is a long standing rash....(not abrupt over the weekend) then it is probably not an emergency issue that you need to rush to the E.R. Work on eliminating the causes and enjoy your new home.

Hope that helps

A rash, is not a rash, is not a rash!... there are several kinds... allergic(did he eat or touch something?)/ parasitic(if it's scabies you'll wish he'd gone in right away.) / drug rash--any new medications?). Think of what's new he's been exposed to. If you think it's the water softener ( I think that's salt, right?) Don't use that water. He should rinse with clear bottled water. What about fabric softener in dryer... or soap for laundry? Keep life as natural as possible. See a doctor.

there could be a type of fungi or mold in your new house that your husband is having an allergic reaction to. Get him to a doctor and see if they can give a cream or ointment to make the rash go away.

Did he take medicine that he's not used to? Did you recetnly change laundry detergent? Sounds like a VERY BAD allergic reaction. If it doesn't go away soon go to the ER right away.

I agree that he should be speaking to his doctor about this. It may just be something minor and allergy-related but it deserves attention.
