humans don't have any instincts, but yeah, it's taught to have one sexual partner. I think that's pretty obvious. But having the same sexual partner for a long time can have a lot of virtues. So can having completely random sexual partners. There's virtues to both models of thinking.

No two people are the same, some people have another sexual partner for different reasons. They could have been with some one and the relationship turn sour after some time. There are just so many reasons it is mind blowing.
To me personally, it is prudent to have one sexual partner once the person is genuine in the way they treat me. In relationships we have to remember that we know peoples face and not their hearts.
There is Aids and all sort of things out there you don't want in your life.

instinct says: procreate. if you have more sexual partners you have better chances of having your genes passed on. but if you have less you might have the chance to watch over your offspring and make them your own not only genetically, but psychically as well. and if you speak of instinct there are a lot of animals who have only one partner all their lives. is it love? education? nope. it just something beyond us.
