I feel the same way about my cat. He is 15 1/2 and has glaucoma. I don't know how I will cope when he dies.
We are especially close in part because I rescued him from the Humane Society the day before he was slated to be killed.

i have a 2 year old dauchund/min pin mix, and when i got her at 6 months old, she'd been abused and starved, and i thought that she'd never come out of that scared sad little emotion that she seemed she was in... it took a lot of love, and patience to coax her to be happy, but now, she's my companion for life. she goes everywhere with me, to work, road trips, grocery store, insurance company........ EVERYONE in town knows her, and loves her. i've had so many offers from people that want to buy her from me, and the thought never even crossed my mind. She is just as much family to me as my mother or significant other, in fact, i'd pick her before my BF, and have..... lol
when i was growing up, my dad and i lived in separate areas of the state, and i visited during holidays. he'd bought me a cat, which, i'd never had a cat before, and didn't know how to handle one, and never got really close to her. now, almost 10 years later, my dad had passed away, and my step mom moved back to the city. I went to her old house, and found my cat. she didn't even tell me that she was still there. I brought her back to my house and she's been here ever since. I love her so much, and the two of the animals get along better than i could have ever imagined.
So, to answer your question, ,,,,, my pets are my family. first and formost. they can't fend for themselfs because they've been domesticated, and i wouldn't have it any other way. they are my babies along with the goldfish :)
you, my dear, are far from silly. love those animals, because they need you to.
thank you for being a good pet parent.

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. They are definitely my family, since I don't live with any humans. My pets are the ones who greet me when I come home, listen sympathetically to my problems, and always take my side when I have a conflict with other people. They never criticize my cooking or cleaning.
Pets- the only love that money can buy!

I'm very close to my male cat Boots he's 12 years old and I have had him since he was a kitten although he ran away 2 times but is doing good he recently refused to eat dry cat food early last year so I switched him to canned cat food. I pay for his vet visits and get as many vaccinations as I can afford and also got his blood tested for kidney and diabetes disorders thankfully he came back normal the lab results and one other result was normal. He is a great cat I read cat care books and go on cat care websites and also brush his teeth.

my cat/roommates cat is like a daughter, at first I was really annoyed when my roommate moved in, Im used to laid back lazy cats, but cappy is very very active and very cuddley and it didnt take long for us to become family, in fact Im pretty sure the cat likes me more than her other mother, (we tell her she has two moms, and the other will be home soon) I especially love how she knows when Im sad and she comes over all innocent looking and goes "meeeeeow" I cant help but smile because she wants to condole me. Anyways, its awesome to see other people feel the same way, my friends think Im crazy since Im always taking her picture and made a huge colage ;)

My cat B. Favre is like my child. I brought him home when he was ten months old and he just turned 8 on New Year's Day. I love him to death, he is my baby(for now) and always will be. He has got me through some tough times. I take him to see Santa every year, he is quite photogenic. He's Siamese, bright blue eyes and white and black. He is my boy and he acts almost human which cracks people up; I put him in timeout and he stays. He understands everything you say, well at least what I say, he's having trouble listening to his new daddy, lol.

At the present time I have 2 cats from the same litter, Dot & Myst, both named for unique markings they have. I also have 3 snakes. I consider them my children since I am unable to have any children of my own. I would do anything for them. Myst is the quiet one, but Dot is a "talker". I work a 3rd shift job and when I don't go to bed at a certain time or I get up earlier than she thinks I should, she yells at me. It makes me think she worries about me. This is one reason I love my babies so much.

I have had a wide variety of pets over the years, and they are all part of the family to a degree. The cats and birds are the most integrated into family life. smaller pets (chameleon, guinea pigs, mice, snakes, etc) aren't as integrated, but still feel a lot of affection for them.

All my pets are considered my family, I have six dogs, a cat and an iguana. They are all rescued animals from animal shelters and dumps. I wouldn't give my animals up for anything in this world. They seem to be there for me more than my human counterparts. I don't consider them pets, but my friends.

My pup is like a baby to me. I'm always real attached to my pets and they return the favor. I think it's that you love something and it loves you back unconditionally and without reason. Pets are really uncomplicated people and in most cases they're easier to get along with than humans. That's probably why it's so easy to get attached to the little lovables.
