Is this a joke? Yes, it's insane. And it's insane that she's living with you. What kind of stability is that for the young girl.

The friend is definitely insane. She is abusing her child by doing this. Im sure the little girl's hair is perfect and there is no need to wake her up and curl her hair every day. She should be allowed to do things children her age do. Sounds like the mother has a problem.

Yes, that's very sad. The girl is learning that she isn't beautiful unless she's "done up." The mom probably had some wish about a kid with curly hair, and with all the compliments she probably gets, she can't bear to see it straight.
I suggest you help your friend find some cute hairstyles for the girl that doesn't involve curling irons. In a couple of years, the girl will start refusing anyway, and she'll want her hair to be normal, not curled into ringlets in the wee hours of the morning.

well some people are obssesed with looking nice and maybe she jsut wants her daughter to look nice. you cant tell her how to raise her child because that might cause some problems in the friendship but maybe little things like dropping hints or something. to much of that and the little girls hair may be permantly damaged. your friend should however let her daughter go to some places because she is basically sheltering her and keeping her back from going out and getting to know and make friends. your friend is a little weird however.

Yes she is insane but until the child is old enough to tell her to stop , and refuses to co-operate (like when she starts school) the child will be forced to cope.
Unfortunately psycho mamas are common but that is what keeps therapists in business ! Just offer to testify for the kid when she sues mama.

Not insane, but it's not fair to the child. Could you convince her to save the curls for special days instead?

As much as I agree with you, I only see you ruining your friendship over this. People do not like to be told how to raise their children. Let your friend make her own "mistakes" and be there for her when she realizes what a mistake she has made. The little girl will one day get tired of it and will let her know. Until then, I would just hold my tongue.

Yes, that seems like an obsessive compulsive disorder to me. It is not right for her to put her daughter through that. My recommendation would be for you to show her all the answers that you will get out here on Yahoo and I really HOPE it makes a difference. She needs to STOP, and if she can't then she needs professional help.

A child needs to have fun. Have you tried to tell your friend that this is making her child miserable? Or maybe ask the child to tell your friend. I hope she will soon be curl-free!

Your friend might be insane, but it isn't worth messing up your relationship with her. Don't get involved.
