You are in any place in front of the last person, so that can be place 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6.

since you are in a race with 7 others, counting u it will be 8, if u are ahead of the last u are 7th or more than that as long as you are not last! You know either 7th, 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd or even 1st - you are anything but last or 8th!!

You messed this question up. The way you worded it, you can be at any point within the line. EVERYONE, except the last person, is ahead of the last person.
"If you are in a race with 7 people and you overtake the last person, what place are you in?" is the real question, and it's self-contradictory unless the "last person" is, from your perspective, the last person YOU need to overtake... putting you in first place.
You can't overtake yourself.
