If a pit bull or rott suddenly attacked a small child would you try to stop it and how if you had no weapons? I have heard that it is extremely hard and that the pit or rott will then turn on the rescuer.

If I didn't have a gun to blow it's brains out, then I would take off my belt, wrap it around the dogs neck and strangle it to death, or grab a large rock or baseball bat and stove it's skull in. Then maybe turn on the dogs owner....

most of the time if a water hose or a bucket is around spray or throw the water on the dog. Suddenly being wet and cold will shock the dog and distract him atleast for a few seconds. Possibly giving the person of attack a chance to either get in the fetal position or run. It might also give someone a chance to turn the dogs attention to them if the attackee is a child. Be prepared, most attacking dogs will turn on the rescuer!

I have been attacked by two dogs. One I kicked in the head and the dog ran away. Another other time a dog lunged at me and I slammed my fist into the side of its head so hard that it was knocked on its side. It got up and ran away. I know this won't work for everyone as I am around 6'3 and 225 lbs, but that is how I stopped a dog attack.

Attacks are never really sudden...
If a dog attacked a small child, I would grab it's back legs and wheel barrow it backwards away from the child.
However, if it had a collar, I would insert my hand through the back of the collar, palm up, and twist the collar until the dog let go of the child due to lack of air.
I would do this for ANY breed, because any breed can be deadly and dangerous.
Don't throw water on the dog...it won't work.
Don't punch or kick the dog, you will only piss it off worse and it will win against you...this is a fact. Dogs are a lot stronger than people give them credit for!

Why in the world would you go anywhere without your weapon? Being defenseless doesn't make you safe: it just makes you a good victim for wild animals of both the 4-legged and the 2-legged varieties. If you love your small child, buy a handgun (.40 or .45 caliber), get training, get a concealed carry permit, and be prepared to defend him/her.

Breaking stick or throw water on the dog.
Dogs do not just "suddenly" attack. There are warning signs. And a pit bull with the CORRECT temperament would never attack a child or any other human, for that matter.
When breaking up a fight between dogs, it's still unlikely you'll be bit by the pit bull. When these dog were originally bred and fought, they were killed if they showed any signs of human aggression, even in the heat of the fight.

There a reason why the dog attack. U could try to stop it or get help. But u also got to look at the fact; how was the dog treated and raise? Where did the dog come from was it used in dog fights? Why the dog attack? Maybe the kid walk on someone's property without a parent knowing about it? Or maybe owner forgot to lock the gate accidently. There many questions to figure out why it attack.

There is no real way to stop being attacked, they tend to go for small people or child's. rollings in ball and not fighting back helps, but if put into that suitation you done really think about what your doing!

Pitbulls are togh dogs and if a small child was being attcked I honstley would not stop the attack with my bare hands or a weapon I would call 911 and get all the help I could I would contact the owner of the child and dog and tell them exactly what was happening and if the owner of the dog comes to help and the dog really listens to its owner then the attack could be stopped that way. But even though the owner helped stop the attack I bet the parents of the child would Sew the owner of the dog.
